Default ASUS Transformer Prime Graphics/Display

This is my first post, I received the Transformer 2 weeks ago and let the system update on its own to ICS and updates from ASUS. I have tried powering on holding down the volume down key and also pressing the reset.

MY Transformer is completely shot - operating system seems to be working (I hear mails incoming etc) but when I turn on all I see is vertical bands (when holding device horizontally). In the good old days of PCs this generally meant a hardware malfunction of the graphics card. Does anyone have any info? Also, I am looking to get it replaced but I am concerned that I cannot remove sensitive info from the tablet (it has emails, bank account stuff etc on it) since I can't see the screen. Is there a GUARANTEED set of hardware presses that will achieve this and how can I verify that it is clean beore sending it back? Seems that the reset/key combination fails to clear the device (as I hear mails being received and if it was clear that would not be the case)

I saw that someone had posted about banding but not sure if this is the same issue - the trouble is I cannot get to the OS in order to try to make any changes.
Thanks
