Only solid video proof we have seen showed the iPad beating the Prime rather easily. I have yet to see video proof of these supposed closer numbers. just sayin....
I bet if we go to an apple forum and bash there products will be banned right away maybe android forums should bann android haters hint hint mods.
Not an Android hater obviously, I own a Galaxy S2. This thread is about an Apple product I OWN. I am not just going in to a random thread about the Prime. Look at the title of this thread again...its created for us to give our input on which we think is better. Don't be so sensitive

I wouldnt go so far as to say that. As for 3D graphics, I personally dont care about that, and I dont know anyone personally that does. As for the other 2 areas, the Ipad and Prime scored awfully close. As far as Im concerned, the prime being less expensive, and being compatible with all my other hardware, the choice for me was clear. If you want to love on the Iwaggon, by all means, thats great. But I really dont think youre gonna convince anyone on here that its a much better product.

To whoever asked me to take a pic with my iPad and my username, here ya go. Even included my S2 in the pic Oh and its very simple to print from an iPad. I do it all the time here, just need AirPrint.

well at least you really own one lol for a minute i thought you were just here to talk shizz lol

I was going to put my iPad 2, iPod Touch, iMac and Macbook Pro in the pic too but not enough room. I am just mostly messing with you guys in here in between the important posts with comparisons. The Prime is a perfectly capable tablet, just not to my liking. Hopefully one of these manufacturers will build an Android tablet I like one of these days.
So guys, from benchmarks we now have it would appear the new ipad is clearly faster when it comes to games.
It's not quite 4 times faster though, more like 3 times faster, Apple exaggerated, but only a little bit.
Prime is only just ahead in browsermark despite have four CPU cores clocked higher and loses slightly when it comes to java performance.
Surprised? Not really, as I've said before if the applications don’t use the extra cpu cores they might as well not be there and we knew the ipad would destroy Tegra 3 in graphics tests.
I’m wondering if nvidia will comment, but I doubt it, whatever they use will have to available on both platforms or everyone will just call BS.

Well quad core in a tablet is silly to begin with right now because the OS is not written to make use of quad core processors. Hell, devs just barely started creating apps that take full use of dual core processors. Apple doesn't see a need for a quad core processor just yet, but its coming very soon. Whats been happening is that Android manufacturers have been pandering to people hung up on specs and tech that is not even full realized yet. They put them in their devices so these people can then brag that their tablet or phone has cutting edge tech. Funny thing is much of that tech isn't even being used or used correctly.
Take NFC for example. Its going to be a big feature, but not just yet. Its still a work in progress. Android manufacturers rush it on to their phones so the tech nerds will go nuts and buy it but ummmm, who the hell is actually using it? What business are even promoting it? The techies will say Apple is sooooo slow and behind the times because none of their devices have it yet, but clearly Apple sees it as a developing platform and its not needed in their devices. What will happen is NFC should be more ready in within a year, Apple will put the tech in the iPhone 5 coming in Oct, businesses will then start adapting NFC tech because they know iPhone users will have it and then all the Android fans will sit around pissing and moaning that they have had NFC tech in their phones for over a year and Apple is just copying Android once again. How it goes

Yep, NFC will never get off the ground until it's in the iPhone.
I'm more than happy with my Prime, iPads are just too boring, I don't care how fast they are.

Well, nobody is going to make an OS or app for quad core if no devices with quad core exist. The hardware has to exist first and when apps and OS are optimized for it, we'll be ready.
If the rumors are true, ASUS is making a Google Nexus tablet with a Tegra 3 to release in a couple months. That could be the launch of Jelly Bean...which could be optimized for quad core and would be relatively easy for ASUS to port over to the Prime.

NFC shouldn't be a work in progress, as it's here and working now (the technology that is). It's not being rushed into loads of devices, but it is important to get it into devices.
There's a big issue with mobile payments, besides security. It's the fact that network operators want to take a cut (albeit a tiny one) of transactions made with a mobile phone. However, the banks don't want to pay. Why would they? Usually they charge merchants to take money on card, not pay THEM commission!
It's not quite as clearcut as that, but you can be sure that until the major banks are happy, mobile payments won't be a reality for some time. So that leaves things like smart tags to change profiles, send URLs or messages, or perhaps speed up Bluetooth pairing. All valid uses, but it also means you need other things (or other people) to have NFC.
I firmly believe Apple will come along with an enticing usage scenario for NFC and hopefully it will work with other NFC devices. To limit it only to Apple would be silly, and I'm not even sure they could do it if they conform to the relevant specifications. Suddenly, a lot of Android (and BlackBerry) devices may realise their true potential.
I Remember reading that the iPad 2 might be faster because it has to push less pixels. They said the same thing happened when they release the iPhone 4 with a retina display, it ended up being slower than the 3GS even though it had an improved processor.
Looks like the new iPad really does suck. If it were me I would just save my money and get an iPad 2. Wow apple really sucks. They release the same products every year with the smallest improvements. Th iPad has looked and performed the same for three years running.... Whatda joke
Meh I was getting faster download times running Speedtest on my iPad2 and new iPad. Ran 3 tests and all had the iPad 2 around 14Mbps while the new iPad was up over 16Mbps. Uploads were about dead even around 1Mbps. They seem to launch most apps around the same time, but even still, I much prefer the screen on the new iPad. Oh and I was in a Sprint Store last night. Played with the HTC Evo View and actually liked it enough to buy it. Was only $250, gonna try it out a bit and see how I like it. Upgraded it to Honeycomb, pretty decent OS and the View is MUCH smoother than the Prime I played with. It doesn't stutter or lag which I can't believe since its only a 1.5Ghz processor. At any rate, I now have a mobile device to fit any occasion I need it for

Is it possible that you reviewed an Asus Transformer? Are you positive it was an Asus Transformer PRIME?
I fail to believe that a Prime would be laggy while using it under the most basic conditions.
Also, it is very hard for me to compare my download and upload speeds with yours, as the ISP affects this greatly. The DL speeds on my prime are around 30 MB/S and upload around 5 MB/S. These are on par with my new XPS laptop, and iTouch, and iPad 2. This was suprising to me because the iPad's utilize 5Ghz and are dual band, whereas the prime isn't dual and can only use 2.4 Ghz.
Overall the wifi on my Prime is good. Although my first Prime was garbage. I'm pretty sure I was sent a beta build because the volume rocker was a different color than the one I was exchanged. And there were ~10 dead pixels, no GPS, screen bleed and very poor wifi.
My second prime has fully functional everything (even GPS works, although the last FW decreased my GPS' functionality).

It was a transformer prime on display at best buy. It lagged just trying to swipe between screens, hesitated a second or two after I pressed the home button or launched an app, not good.

I think it's a little bit too far to say the new iPad sucks! There's no point in having a go at some Apple fanboys being blind to some facts that show Apple isn't always the greatest, and then going to the other extreme.
If I was going to buy an iPad (and I'm not - despite being surrounded by them on Friday at the launch) then I'd get the iPad 3, if only because it will be the model supported for longer. With the way Apple works, I expect the iPad 1 will stop getting updates (or they may become chargeable) at some point. Then the iPad 2, until all new apps may be designed only for the new resolution.
One thing with tablets is that they're going to be (to a lot of people, besides the early adopters and fanboys) more like a desktop or laptop computer - something you won't actually change that often.

Ya, I just like getting the apply fanboys riled up by using vague general terms, which they like to do.
I just tested a new iPad 3 at my local retail store.
I have got to be honest, when I was swiping between the screens, or pushing the home botton, there was a 1-2 second delay before it did anything. comparing this to my iPad 2, I have got to say that the new iPad lacks in performance. While the screen is pretty and the graphics may benchmark better, it seems foolish to put a lackluster year old CPU in a new product. New CPU's are outdated by the weeks end, so I really can't understand why you would put the same CPU in a new product. This means the new CPU will be in place for atleast one more year in the iPad.
This appears to be a very foolish move. Samsung, Snapdragon, Qualcom, and Nvidia will all have new chips onto the market while the iPad is still here. I expect the next Nvidia chip to blow the pants off of the A5X (it is suppose to be realeased later this year). But, samsungs, snapdragons, and qualcoms chips look even better, and should without a doubt smoke the A5X.
Apple made a very foolish decision to keep the same tired old CPU. It's like buying a new computer with a core 2 duo..... Makes me ill to imagine. If I bought a new computer and it was top notch in every regard, and then the CPU was outdated, I would puke...

The display units were running Andriod 3.2, as opposed to the 4.0.3 that the OS was upgraded to. Thats probably why the lag. That being said, I noticed lag on a demo unit as well. Not nearly as much as the other net books, but after purchase, and upgrading the OS, no lag at all, even with 14 other tabs running.
Snapdragon is Qualcomm, but there's also Intel and ST Ericsson (plus Huawei) making chips.
It seems the race is on to win the stats war, but I've not found myself wanting on a range of Android devices I have to hand.
I've got the Motorola Atrix - Tegra2. That's fast enough.
I've got the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc - 1GHz Snapdragon single core. That's also fast enough, but lacks RAM which can cause apps to quit too soon (unless you root and tweak the low memory settings).
Going back further, I've got devices with 800MHz and even a 600MHz processor and far less RAM - as well as much lower resolution displays. They're fine too.
I have had devices that struggle to even run Angry Birds, but they're all pretty much history now. I think we're at the stage where we are waiting for developers to make use of all this extra power.
Many lags aren't even anything other than to render a fancy transition effect. Turn off animations in Android and you'll speed things up even more - but, guess what, I actually like to see them. Sometimes you need some breathing time when doing things too!
I wonder if the first batch of the new ipad display is provided by Samsung? The new ipad has a yellowish tint to it compare to the ipad 2. The white on the ipad 2 looks white while the new pad white looks off.
ipad 3 on left and ipad 2 on the right is a better screen really worth a upgrade of hundreds ?
If it is your first time buying an ipad I can see why folks would get the new model. If you own a ipad 2 already, it is a waste imo. I have seen a few videos were the ipad 2 is a little faster so you are not alone.

Yes, yes, yes, we have all heard this many times before. Apple is using old, outdated tech, Android phones and tablets have so much more to offer, Android has superior tech....and what happens? No one cares. Apple sells more iPhones and iPads in a month than most of these companies sell Android devices in an entire year. The general public doesn't know and/or care about rooting and ROM'ing, quad core processors or if their device takes .7 seconds longer to load an app.
Look at the reviews on Android tablets. Any reviewer that isn't a blatant Android fanboy will admit that although the hardware on some Android tablets may be better, the OS feels half finished and the tablet specific apps (what few there are) completely suck. Here is an article that sums it up well The iPad Wins Because Android Tablet Apps Suck: An Illustrated Guide | News & Opinion | PCMag.com
On a side note, I am getting ready to return the Evo View 4G tablet I just bought last night. This will make the 3rd Android tablet I have bought in hopes of liking and returned (Galaxy Tab and Xoom are the other two). This is another reason Android tablets aren't selling, an awful experience. Get the View running and literally 3 minutes later, the Friend Stream app is making it crash and reboot. Any time it tries to update, crash, so I remove it. Then the weather final loads and the rain animation starts making it crash and reboot. However, because its on the main page, I just keep getting the white HTC screen and rebooting over and over again. I have had the device for like 10 minutes. That would be enough for most new Android tablet users to return it and never touch one again. Never once have I had an issue like these with an iPad or iPod, unacceptable.
Finally did a hard reset and quickly disabled the weather from starting which fixed that issue, but I know my way around the Android OS. The tablet itself is awful. Everything is slow after the upgrade to Honeycomb. Netflix can't even stream a movie at the right frame rate, websites take far too long to load, even on WIFI, its just bad. My iPod Touch played the same movie back over Netflix flawlessly and I have never had issues with it running slow or lagging. The fact that my iPod Touch with its 700MHz processor and only 256MB of RAM can out-perform the View with its 1.5GHz Snapdragon and 1GB of RAM is just more proof that the specs on a device are pretty much meaningless.

Whats really the most interesting thing, is how even the Apple fanboys are on their own forums bashing the new iPad. There is nothing better than going on to apple forums where apple Fanboys bash their own device
I reccomend a daily browse of the apple forums now, as it is definitely apparent the new iPad isn't without its fair share of issues. Looking at these issues, I would definitely recoomend sticking with the iPad 2, or buying the iPad 2. psychtron, I reccomend you return your faulty device while you still can.

Hmmm, well...Judging from the poll numbers on Apple's most visited forums, looks like it isn't much of a problem. Nearly 87% of new iPad owners who have taken the poll have no issues. Those who have had issues are simply returning them for a new model, whats the problem? Who has a perfect new iPad? - MacRumors Forums
Lest we forget all the problems Android phones have had with their launches? I recall a TON of problems with the Evo 4G on its release and that was the top dog for Android phones a few year back. Screens falling off, light leaks, screen was unresponsive while laying on a surface, weak radio and wifi....I remember this all too well because I was in line at 4am to get one and had to return it same day for a new one. Launch day problems are very common and if 10% of millions of units sold have issues, big deal, stuff happens. Apple is great about returning product.

I'm kinda curious what's going to happen when the next iPad is released. This one isn't called the iPad 3, it's just the iPad (or what most are calling the "new iPad"). Will the next one be the new new iPad, the new^2 iPad, the new iPad 2? Or will the old ones be the old iPad, the iPad 2 , and the older iPad? Or maybe the OG iPad?
The Following User Says Thank You to ylexot For This Useful Post:
The Asus tablet, by comparison, was too bright, with washed-out whites
Ummm...you can't wash out whites. To "wash out" means to make closer to white. White is, by definition, white and cannot get closer to white.
Also, people keep going to the offscreen performance...which the new iPad better win in order to not get bogged down by driving that many more pixels. I'm more impressed by the iPad 2's numbers that aren't much lower.
Maybe the reason for that is that most apps written for Android phones work fine on Android tablets. There's no reason to make a tablet-specific version unless the developer wants to take advantage of the extra screen real estate to make a better user experience.
