Default HDMI issues

Today was the first time I plugged my Prime into my TV and I have to say that it is almost useless.

On the tablet itself the screen gets a thick black border at the bottom and on the TV the screen res gets cropped off of the screen. Add to the fact that every game I tried simply crashed or jerked to a stop and apps stopped working.

Anyone else having these issues? Or am I missing something here?

ive played several games through hdmi (including shadowgun) and all have worked fine for me. what tv are you connecting too btw? may be worth trying with a different tv to see if you get the same thing. (could be something to do with the resolution of the tv your connecting too, 720p or 1080i/p?)

I'm using a Samsung that runs 1080i. I cannot see any settings on the Prime for tweaking the HDMI output either.

Saw this over at XDA talking about the upcoming firmware 21:
"+ New display mode of HDMI output - Scale mode(Default) and Crop mode (Detail comparison in next two sides.)"

Not sure how official that is, but your problem may be fixed soon.

Thanks ylexot. I have to wonder whether the display issue is what causes the crashes or it is something else!

I have since rebooted my Prime and the games are now stable. Tablet and TV res are still messed up though.

Got to say the best looking game so far is Shine Runner, blows ShadowGun out the water!

Usually, you have to tell the tv to re auto scan after connecting a device if it doesnt see it right. Also look in the tv settings for over scan or adjust etc...
Mine hasnt had any issues on 2 5vs i tried but might just be i was lucky.

Well my Samsung is not a new HD TV, I brought it just before the 1080p TV's started to appear so don't think it has a rescan option. Tell me, do your Primes get a double size black border at the bottom of the screen when you plug them in? It is basically the size of the normal border, but double. :P

I have a feeling its due to the resolution of the tv.

Im guessing the native resolution of the tv is 720p and your prime is outputting in that resolution, but the tv is trying to output it in 1080i giving scaling issues due to the lack of rescan you mentioned.

As has been mentioned the update in the next couple of days should fix this issue by adding a scaling option.

However in the mean time im betting if you plug your prime into a 1080p tv, or a 720p tv with rescan it will work fine.

I think you could be right Netherdragon. The TV reports a res on 1280x720 @60Hz.. I will look deeper to see if i can find some other options on the TV.

Hopefully that will be addressed in the update.

I did try it on the cheapo bedroom TV and had the same issues.

I would love to say the latest update fixed my issue, but it did not. I think it may do, but because I get this massive border appear on the tablet when i plug the device in it throws the screen off on the TV.

I am having the same issues with another tablet and the hdmi I found your post looking for help with mine.

I had an app called HDMISWITCH on my tablet when I got it, anyway the other day for the first time I decided to try to watch a movie on my tv off of the tablet.

At first my tv didnt see the tablet, then I went to the app and turned it on and the tv saw it and I started a movie, then it crashed after a minute and will not work again.

the app now doesnt turn on it just stays where it is set to now, bascially off, and I cant get it to turn back on.

I think for me anyway it is more about getting the tab to be seen by the tv via an app or control on the tablet to let it broadcast or whatever.

Does anyone know of a fix or workaround or anyway to help with this issue?
Sorry to hijack your thread a bit, I figued since we are having the same problem and nobody has posted a fix it wouldt hurt
Thanks in advance fr any help

I never solved the issues I had. The games/apps stopped crashing, but I still had a huge black border causing issues. Even on my brand new Samsung smart tv's, guess it may have been a hdmi issue. But I sent the tablet back in the end, so cannot help I'm afraid.

Is there an button on the Samsung remote to adjust the view or zoom?, there may be various 'wide' modes you can use.
