Default Is the keyboard dock needed?

Thinking of getting the EEE Pad Transformer for my 21st (would this be a good present? :P), and am wondering whether I'd need to buy it with the keyboard.

I mean, I have a laptop and stuff, which I use for word processing, usual stuff.

I'd want to use this for occasional gaming, internet browsing, video's, music, books etc.

So would I *really* need the keyboard?

Need? Since it has a microSD card slot, my initial impression with the tablet is to say no. Get a large enough card and you might not need much else. You can always get extra cards if need be. The only other thing to consider is if you'll need the USB ports that are on the dock for other things or not.

Nice to have? I'll let you know next week but I'm thinking it is probably very nice to have. (For reasons I'm sure you've already read about in various places by now.)

The keyboard is what sets it apart from other tablets for those looking for a more laptop like solution. The extra battery isn't so bad either since I never bother to carry the power cord ow.

But the tablet on its own isn't without its own merits compared to other tablets, epecially with the IPS screen and the price. The only thing really missing on the tablet itself is a full size USB (add on doesn't count, though that option is there).

you answered your own question. since none of the things you mention require the keyboard, you do not NEED one. in fact, if you bought one, it would probably be a waste of your money.

the tablet is awesome on its own (and i have both the tablet and the keyboard).

Ive had my transformer for about 2 weeks now and it is perfect for gaming and browsing without the keyboard. Now I got a stylus and been looking for a good app to take notes in for school, but none seem to work out to well. The keyboard might be the only real productive solution for note taking and word possessing.

in addition to a hard keyboard (for fast typing), the keyboard dock is good for:
1) charging the tablet without having to plug it in
2) acting as a stand when you are tired of holding it (but it will still have to be on your lap or a table)
