lol love Asus supports reply to the issue...:

Thank you for contacting Asus UK.

It is very unfortunate that you are experiencing issues after the ICS update. Our apologies for the inconveniences caused.

We have been made aware of the issues that customers are having after the ICS update. Our R&D department have been notified unfortunately no root cause has been found as of yet. We are still looking into this matter.

At this stage we would like to advise you to back up all your data and perform the reset back to factory settings as below:
1. Press and hold the power button and choose <Ok> to shut down.
2. Remove any SD cards from the Eee Pad.
3. Press and hold the <Volume Down> button, then press and hold the <Power> button. Keep pressing them both until you see white writing on the screen. You may then release them.
4. Wait five seconds until you see an icon in the middle of the screen labeled "Data Wipe".
5. Use the <Volume down> button to highlight "Data Wipe"
4. Press the <Volume up> button to execute the process.
6. After the "Wipe Data" process finished, it will automatically reboot and start normally.

If the above fails to resolve the issue, we can only advise of a repair.

......

lol i just copied and paste the thing in here, spot the numerical error....

so what do you guys think?

Standard boilerplate response. It's just to keep you busy while they work on the problem. If a reset semi-fixes even 20% of the problem Transformers then they'll keep handing out that spiel until they actually fix the problem.

Yup..in looking at this and other forums, it appears that a factory reset only temporarily fixes this. So is it worth any time at all to restore apps, etc? Not IMO..I don't have enough time to spare.

I've been leaving wifi on and kept it plugged in over night, but I didn't update, delete or really change anything.

I've got one for you, this morning I took it off the charger, surfed the web, undocked, and turned it OFF. I came back from work, hit the on button and it was waiting on the decrypt password. So it had somehow turned itself back on but was waiting input. Sometime in the 8hrs or so I was away.

Weird.

Anyone do that full reset and see if it helps??

yeah, just open an app and then put it instandby with the app open. I noticed a few full reboots this way.

after about 2 days (following removal of AVG antivirus), the problem is back

came back today to see it stuck on the ASUS logo with the circle of balls stuck...what a balls-up update.

someone mentioned earlier removing and reinserting the microSD card helped. Not in this case.

so far tried (and didn't fix issue):
1. wipe tablet
2. remove AVG antivirus (2 days without reboot with this one, though)
3. remove/reinsert microSD

Hi Guys!

Having all the same weird problems you guys describe!!!
Never ever had troubles with updates etc; not even Honeycomb OTA...
ICS? Is a mess....

But .. one tries to do something..

So I downloaded the manual update for my TF101; WW version and did an install once again! And ... I must say (did not backup anything before; no factory resets no nothing; just installed it OVER my existing non-functioning ICS) performance is way better now.. very smooth!

Will have to see what happens though..... if the TF stays shut off when I shut if off! If it'll NOT reboot without me 'doing it'.. etc...
So far.. so good...

Manual update you can download for your device at the 'Software tab' from the official asus website!
Goodluck!

Grtz!!

Anybody know if settings>about tablet>status>up time refers to time since last boot or time since unplugged?

Actually it doesn't matter since mine is showing 14:58:45 which would put it around 2:20 a.m and It was not plugged in last night and I wasn't awake, so the sucker rebooted without me knowing, but at least it didn't get stuck. That's something, right?

Interesting...I would never have thought of that. In light of the post from El Presidente (my favorite brandy btw) I'm gonna wait to see if Asus releases a patch

I believe you're correct. I put mine up this morning when I left for the office and left it with the screen saver app active at 35%. When I got home a few minutes ago the screen saver was still active, which indicates it didn't reboot, as that app doesn't start automatically. So the up time is like 9:45 which is quite surprising. Btw, the screen saver app is very useful

Default Reboot Lockup

My TF 101 with updated to ICS is also did the same thing, reboots itself and locks up with the logo screen. It has happened 4 times so far, I did a hard boot, power & vol down, and it still occurred a few minutes ago.

I have an occasional problem with the power button not responding but the first unit I bought I returned because of constant power button problems. If it weren't for "restocking" fees and it being a Xmas present for my son, I would have exchanged it for an iPad.

So I finally got like 20 hours up time until it shut down on its own. In light of the Ipad3 release, Steve Jobs, wherever he is getting a last laugh.. There's something to be said for his maniacal desire to keep Apple products in a closed garden. The end result is that Apple's products just work.. Something to be said for that

I dunno, seems like Apple has had it's share of new device problems and botched roll outs.
No device/OS is perfect.

Maybe Apple has some niggling items that cause issues, but I doubt that they would ever release an updated OS with this kind of widespread problem. Hasn't happened and I doubt it ever would.. At least while Jobs was around

So are we comparing Apple to Google or Apple to Asus? Pardon the pun but comparing Apple to Asus is like comparing Apples and Oranges.

Apple is a software and hardware manufacturer. Asus does primarily Hardware. Apple is one of the biggest companies in the world. Asus is not.

If you want to be tied to Apple so much so they tell you what to buy and where to get it and how often you can go to the bathroom, enjoy your Ipad.

Me? I will stick with the android platform so I can choose what manufacturer to buy from and where to get my apps from.

There are always going to be growing pains, but I will dry my tears with all the extra money I have saved by not buying into the Apple Ecosystem.

There are plenty of iOS Vs Android threads littered around the site, feel free to have a look around for them if you want to continue that conversation. I can even provide links if you like?

Lets keep this thread focused on the issues we're having with the transformer please.

Havent got caught in a boot loop yet, but mine has several time been dead in the morning after being showing plenty of battery left before I went to bed and it has gotten stuck booting a bunch of times as well. Also have issues with the stock browser just disappearing and sending me back to the home page. Thankfully when reloading it takes me exactly where I was most of the time.

Ugh freaking annoying.

Yes I agree..I was just venting a little. Anyway, I almost made it to 24 hours then it shut down.

Doesn't seem like there's much to add to this subject as it is all in Asus' hands now I believe. Hopefully their facebook post is true and next week they will patch this.

BTW I was in a BB earlier and saw their Transformer is on 4.03 and I asked the sales guy if it has issues..he says it shuts off all the time..stuck on reboot...same old same old...invariably when a customer wants to look at it, they have to reboot it. Nice sales thing there...

I really haven't been doing anything differently. Surf a little, check mail and G+, facebook, etc. Watch a recorded TV show and play a little Angry Birds.

Luck of the draw then I guess. What's annoying besides the reboots is how gmail among other apps act very flaky after awhile without a reboot anyway

Mine has been rebooting since the upgrade on the first day it was available. it only got stuck on the ASUS screen twice, rebooted by holding the power button.

Last night I forgot to plug it in and it must have rebooted and gotten stuck on the ASUS screen, cause it wouldn't start today. Finally got it to boot by plugging it in a holding the power button for 2s. It wouldn't start if I held it longer than that.

Battery was at 0%! Not good to run these Lithium cells down to 0%!

Ugh freaking annoying.
I find that occasionally, mine gets caught in the boot loop. It only seems to happen when the tablet goes to sleep. I would close the tablet while in the dock or press the power button to put it to sleep while it is undocked. Then some time later when I use it again, I find that it is in the boot loop. I have never seen my tablet go into the boot loop while I'm using it. I only find it in the loop when I wake it after not using it for a while.

So far, this isn't too disruptive. It's more annoying when I go to use my tablet and find that part of the power is drained. Also, I have to force it to reboot again which causes a delay in when I can use it again.

I haven't been able to narrow down what is causing it. There were some reports that it may have something to do with the Google+ app. So far, I haven't been able to conclude if it is or not. I'm going to observe to see if it is related to Google+ alerts. I have my suspicions, but need more time.

I'm trying what is a workaround until Asus releases a patch, that someone posted in another forum: install auto airplane, by Don(free in the market). Straightforward app that puts it in airplane mode when the screen is off. That's all.. So I'll report back. Side benefit appears to be longer battery life as well. So far 12 hrs up time & counting, without a hiccup.

Up time is now at 54:25:00

Did this somehow magically fix itself?

I'm sure this is going to jinx myself but my up time was around the 200 hour mark this morning. I had already posted what I did to get it to work and so far it has been successful.

Except I didn't really do anything special. Just business as usual.

I have a suspicion that my issue could possibly be due to notifications while in sleep mode. I noticed that there could possibly be a correlation between the tablet going into the boot loop while sleeping and Google+ notifications while sleeping. I was rather active on Google+ yesterday and my tablet went into the boot loop while sleeping a few times. If I'm actively using the tablet, Google+ notifications pop up without any issue.

I'm going to do some more testing on this later. If this is the case, then putting the tablet into airplane mode before putting it into sleep mode would possibly be a workaround. I'll just put an airplane mode widget on the home screen and toggle it. I'll keep you posted on any further findings.

I got the boot loop notification error on the last over the air update for honeycomb. Shut my wi fi off durring sleep mode and that was cured. After ICS update I kept getting google plus force close messages. Got the perma-lock in sleep mode, let the battery run dry, plugged it in and updated google plus and havent had an issue since.

I have mine set to turn wireless off when in sleep mode (so no notifications coming in), and I still get my rebooting/stuck on ASUS boot logo.

I've tried it WiFi off and on. I though it had to do with notifications too, but even with WiFi off, and no notifications it still rebooted. No I've been keeping WiFi mostly on and have been receiving gmail, email, calendar g+ and market notifications and have not had a reboot in almost 3 days.

Just spoke to Asus support in Canada (/US?). The guy I spoke to said that they are not aware of any reboot issues with the TF101. Is anyone calling theirs in??

Anyways, since the guy says that they are not aware of a reboot trend, he wants me to send mine in for repairs :/

Might wait a week or two to see if that patch mentioned on the UK Asus facebook page comes in and fixes mine before sending it in, though.

The airplane mode appears to be a good workaround. On mine however, I may have to do a reset..the gmail app has gone to being non functional without rebooting. Hangs, FC's, freezes, etc. This is an app I can't do without, so it's either get it working or throw the thing out the window. Does anyone know the difference between the volume down/power button hold method compared to doing it through the menu?

Edit: btw, deleting data in the app for a fresh sync does no good. The gmail app starts and freezes about halfway through the sync

Try a 3rd Party app for your mail, would that be a workaround in the time being? K9 is pretty good for me.

I think the reset via the menu and the recovery image are the same thing. Both just wipe the data partition removing all user installed apps and settings etc.

^^The built in email app works ok but doesn't sync with the gmail app and doesn't thread the conversations...but it's ok in a pinch. I may also be able to use Chrome, but as most know, it's laggy when using gmail. I don't wanna tie up my weekend messing with this, so I'll probably wait through next week to see what happens on Asus' end. Helluva thing to have an android table that can't run gmail huh. On a positive note, the auto airplane app seems to have done away with the rebooting and shut downs. Just has to reconnect to wifi each time it's woke. Of course, it doesn't prevent the occasional reboot when totally awake, with screen on.
