Default Really strange WiFi issues.

Hey, I'm having some really strange issues with my Eee Pad.

It's worked perfectly ever since I bought it (about a year ago), but after coming back from a couple of days' vacation a few weeks ago, I've been unable to connect to our home wifi.

Our connection (called Netgear) shows up on the list of available connections. It says "Secured with WEP" beneath it (which is normal), and it usually has 3-4 bars. When I type in the 25 digit password and click "connect", nothing happens. It just sits there with "Secured with WEP" beneath it.

My laptop, iPod and home computer can connect to Netgear just fine.

I started experimenting a bit, and found out the following:
- If I write less than 17 digits in the password field and hit "connect", Netgear will say "Obtaining IP address..." and the bars will drop to 1. Nothing further will happen.
- If I write 17 or more digits in the password field and hit "connect", Netgear will do nothing. It'll just sit there and look stupid.

It doesn't matter what I write in the password field, only how many digits.

I've tried resetting our router and our wifi with no success. I've even tried a hard reset of the Eee Pad, but to no avail.

I am so very confused by this, and I hope you can help me.

Welcome to the forums, krosp.

It appears that the device is reacting to conflicting data somewhere in the chain of events that are supposed to lead up to a connection with the network. I'm thinking that the factory data reset proved that the tab is not the problem, and that the router itself may need a hard reset and/or complete clearing of all configuration settings.

I'd go ahead and clear settings from both the router and the eee tab/pad, then shut them both down. Also, the modem your router is attached to should be de-powered via unplug or a switch if one is there.

Then I'd start fresh by first turning on the router. Let it fire up completely until you see the "no internet" or other prompt or dim light which shows up when the modem is not on. Then turn on the modem. Then the device.

Then configure the router. Wait a few minutes and then configure the Android device for the wifi connection.

Also, try selecting your home router in the wifi listing of the TF and 'forget' the connection. Depending upon what data you have backing up to Google, it's possible the information for this connection was restored after the reset on the device, which of course would just bring the problem back, if that's where the problem is.
