Android devices are released — and updated — at a furious pace. For example, let’s look at Asus: while initial availability of the Transformer Prime is still rolling out, Asus is already showing off an updated version of the tablet/netbook hybrid. While it isn’t exactly a full-fledged sequel, it does pack a big update in an important area. The (unfortunately named) Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime TF700T will have an updated display that is designed to compete with Apple’s Retina display iPad 3.
Most of the Transformer Prime TF700T’s specs are the same as its predecessor. That means it will have a quad-core Tegra 3 processor, an 8MP rear camera, the same external chassis, and the same keyboard dock accessory. Its display, however, will jump from the Prime’s respectable 1280×800 all the way up to 1920×1200.
The display upgrade is easily the most significant upgrade in the TF700T, but it isn’t the only upgrade. The “Transformer Prime Plus” (our nickname, not Asus’s) will also have a modified back panel, which will improve WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS reception (the Prime has been laden with GPS problems). The front camera also gets an upgrade, from 1.2MP up to 2MP.
The iPad 3 will almost certainly get a 2048×1536 Retina display, and Asus knows it. Once that Retina iPad hits store shelves, customers may gravitate even farther towards it and away from Android tablets. Planning ahead with a similarly high-res display will help the Prime’s follow-up to maintain the appeal of the current Prime.
One area where the Transformer Prime TF700T was upgraded isn’t likely to make customers happy. Its price will be jumping by $100 over the standard Prime. That means the 32GB version will run for $599, and the 64GB will ring up at $699. When you add the optional keyboard dock to the mix, it’s turning into quite the expensive purchase.
The TF700T will be available in the second quarter of 2012 (spring or early summer). Perhaps that will give Asus enough time to come up with a more memorable name.
* Note that the above image is a modified Transformer Prime promo image, not the TF700T.
Release date rumored to be somewhere in the second quater of 2012.
Rumored price:
The 32GB version will retail for somewhere near the $599.00 range.
The 64GB version will retail for somewhere near the $699.00 range.
Now, the title says until after June, but the article says "the company said those in the U.K. shouldn’t expect the Prime HD to hit before June at the earliest" which means that it could launch in June, but don't expect it earlier than that.
To start, the 10.1 inch Super IPS+ display has 600 nits of brightness and will by a Full HD display (1920×1200). It’ll house 1GB of RAM, 32-64GB of internal storage with expansion options and will have an 8 megapixel rear camera which can shoot HD video.
The front camera has gotten a slight upgrade from the Transformer Prime, as well – it has a 2 megapixel sensor over the latter’s 1.3 megapixel sensor. It’s extremely thin for a tablet, as well, with its 8.5mm brushed metal chassis.
...
You’ll be getting NVIDIA’s quad-core Tegra 3 monster if you opt for the WiFi version, Qualcomm’s dual-core MSM8260A S4 Snapdragon processor if you want 3G, and Qualcomm’s dual-core MSM8960 s4 Snapdragon processor if you’re getting an LTE version.
I cant see the ASUS 32 gig model being $600, with the new Ipad 32 gig costing $500. ASUS would be smart to price it just below the new IPAD.
The iPad 2 32gb is $500, but that doesn't have the retina display. The new iPad 32gb is $600, but that has a higher resolution display and a larger battery.
Frankly I'm mostly worried about battery life on the TF700T, since it's the same size as before, but it's pushing quite a bit more pixels.
Hello! I am thinking about either purchasing this tablet or the transformer pad infinity 700 from bestbuy or the like for college. I will (of course) be purchasing this with the docking station (I'm assuming that'll come out to be around $750) so that I'm able to take sufficient notes..
I was wandering if I should wait until this one comes out or if I should go with the transformer prime instead. I do like the fact this one has 1920x1200 but I need it before august. I also am aware the current transformer has some issues with wifi and gps signals but I'm not quite sure as of yet..
Decisions decisions..
I also do plan to surf the web *a lot* on this tablet and view different things on it. I also am a tablet gamer. I might also put CM9 on the device when it's released if I feel like it would be beneficial.

Don't want get caught with them?

i dont know where you are located but any of the stores in my area (southern va) cant keep them on the shelves long enough to stock them so most of the time you have to order them unless you get their as soon as the shipment comes in. I ordered my 201 yesterday and will have it by wednesday from the local best buy.
also gamestops in my area are the only place i know that stocks them, because people probably dont even know that they carry them
I've been waiting for months, been so temped to settle with the TF201 but I've been holding out for the screen, only 1-2 months left, this wait is unbearable
Device(s): BB, BB2, DINC, Thunderbolt, Gnex, Note 2, ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T

I have the prime, it is a fantastic unit! I do not have wifi issues, and could care less about gps. The thing is amazing....
With that said, Asus is not "trying" to fix anything, they are strategically releasing it, just like they should.

Agree. My ipad2 is annoying in so many ways. Looking forward to this unit.
The WiFi version of the firm's upcoming Transformer Pad Infinity (formally numbered TF700T) sauntered its way through the FCC, revealing itself as the slate's Tegra 3 option, if only for its lack of having a cellular radio.

I've been looking at tablets for about a month now and was just about to purchase a TF300...and then i stumble on this information.
I guess I'll wait another month...
While my excitement for the upcoming release of the Infinity is still high, I am still cringing at the cheesiness of that video. The voice was stupid. The words had no meaning, and whoever created that animation has zero design skills at all. Wow, that was bad. Looked like a high school A/V project.

I couldn't agree more with you....
That said, I am also patiently waiting for the release.
No date yet, but here's an article that includes a couple of new videos: one is a high level overview, the other is some benchmark results against ipad3.

Interesting.... the vids were definitely not private when I posted. So it looks like ASUS is trying to keep things quiet... Yeah, so I guess our best guess at a release announcement will be June 25, no?

I thought it was interesting to see that the docking station came packaged together with the Infinity. If this is actually how it will be sold, $599 would not be a bad price.
"Meanwhile, Android Authority said the Asus Transformer Pad Infinity (TF700) is headed for the United States by the end of June in both a WiFi only and an LTE version."
"The pad will go for $499 but we are not sure if that’s the price of the WiFi-only version or of the LTE version."

Don't know how reliable this outfit is, but it was an interesting tidbit of info on the Infinity buried in a Google tablet article.
