Google Talk worked on my Nokia...Nimbuzz may work as well.
When did google talk get video on phones?

Yea, on the N900 only, no other phone has it or ever has. I think they sold maybe 200 of those phones. Really wanted one when they came out, but not for $500.
Device(s): - T-Mobile Defy on AT&T 850/3G, or on T-Mo
- AT&T Galaxy Note on AT&T

Google Talk video calls not supported on Google phone? Shame. Fring may work with the right client behind it (e.g. Skype). Do Skype video calls work natively?

ive tried it with 2 people....one had a samsung epic and it worked fairly well...you have to try a few times to get a good link up though....and it wont stay connected for more than a few minutes at least not for me.
i also tried with a moto droid x and the person had to push the mic button everytime they wanted to talk...i had the same connection issues but way worse.
sigh....we need faster data!!!! att hurry up already or i may cancel and move to another network...i still have 28 days to decide

The problem is Qik most likely. It just doesn't work well on anything I've tried.
This is just stupid. Why would a company ship a phone that doesn't have an app that supports the front facing camera at launch? How come none of the reviews ever mentioned this? Yeah, you can get Qik but it only works with other Qik users. It's just the same as Apple releasing FaceTime that only works with other FaceTime users.
It does on the IP4. Very disappointed the Atrix version does not do the same.
I've used Qik, from my Atrix to an Evo, and it worked just fine. As far as Tango, I believe there is a whole thread addressing it and the makers of the app are working on it.
Sounds like another case of the hardware being ahead of the software. It would be nice to have some coordination on it but its difficult to do. Its strange that Skype wouldn't be all over this but the Skype app kinda sucks on Android still. I was getting a call yesterday and couldn't answer it. I had to close the app, open it again, and call the person back otherwise it didn't work. Damn you Skype!

From what I understand, Qik only works from Android to Anroid. That would be the same as me only being able to call people on AT&T.I think it's pretty frustrating. I purposefully bought this phone and dumped the iPhone 4 because of the Front Facing Camera. I used face time a lot on the iPhone and I thought, no biggie, until Skype gets their heads out of their ass I can just use Yahoo messenger. Nope. I love this phone, but a FFC with no app is about at useless as tits on a boar.

someone said it before, but its hardware ahead of software. its not the atrix's fault

Motorola should have coordinated with just one company to support their product ahead of time and have it ready for launch. It may not be the Atrix's fault per se, but it is definitely Motorola's fault.

I agree. They didn't start designing this thing at Christmas time to push out the door in February and video chat certainly isn't a new technology. So to say it is the hardware being ahead of the software is just making excuses. They had plenty of time coordinate something. I mean google has video chat in my web browser and even they they can't shove something together to compete with FaceTime. Come on.
so after reading all these threads... Looks like Qik is the only really option right? When I create an account online, it's asks to list my device, but I don't see Atrix under the motorola devices... Should I pick Doid 2?
And Qik is android-to-android only? or can I do android-to-Computer also?

"Qik for Atrix" in the market.
Qik video chat is not available in the Apple App store, so I dunno about ONLY android to android...but not android to IP4 and not sure about to a computer.
I decided to try out Qik video tonight and signed up for an account. I'm using the App that came with the camera. No matter what I choose, it takes me to a black camera screen with a big red record button, but the screen says "Camera is locked". I've tried the option to switch cameras, but no dice. (note: I did post a note in the troubleshooting section about this issue)
Even if it did work, I don't know what good it will do me. Nobody I want to video chat with has an android phone with a front facing camera. C'mon skype!

Did you make sure to get the "Qik for Atrix" app? I've used it with an Evo user and it worked perfectly.

Qik makes a windows mobile version, not many of those with ffc though. They don't make a desktop version, so we're pretty much stuck with other android phones.
Thanks for the help everyone... So, what can I do with a front facing camera??? Sure, I can use Qik for Atrix... but anything else? Did Motorola add it assuming Skype or some other universal video conference app would be available soon? ...My wife loves to point this out as she uses her IP4.

What can you do with the FFC? Well, you can take self portraits! hah
From what I read in another thread, seems like Tango devs are working on a solution...and that does work iP4 to android.

Yes, Apple is welcome to the party which Nokia has been at for years.
I just got it to work with my Atrix and my friends Verizon IP4... but just once... and now it says server communication issues... Also, does Tango have a PC client?
