Default switch from 3g to 2g

Is there anyway to switch to 2g mode (force 2g) cuz sometime I will be in the weak or no 3g area... so I can extend my battery life..

So far all I've been able to find is an app called Data Switch that completely disables your data. I use it sometimes when I'm charging it, wanna conserve battery, etc but let me know when you find a full on network switch

Go into settings -> wireless & networks -> mobile networks -> select network -> pick '2G only'. This force the phone to go into 2G.

Download widgetsoid on the market and there's an option to toggle between 2G and 3G.

I am assuming that this is a stupid AT&T lock out -_-;;; Seriously...I don't understand why they'd do that :/ It's like they want you to use more data!

I'm trying to think and with that feature block, the only way around a it would be through root. Most 2G/3G toggle apps are simply shortcut to that setting so they are pretty useless.

You can try this thread over at XDA, someone brought the exact same issue up.

Sorry I can't be of better help. I have the Bell Atrix and all of the stock Android features have not been disabled.

Lucky lol yeah it's completely blocked out, I am rooted but haven't found anything on this yet. I'll check out those links, thanks

Update: I checked out the thread but kinda lead to a dead end. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens

I guess something like this didn't work?

Choosing "GSM only" forces it to EDGE only. It also means that we can just download a widget to switch it between 2g only and 2g/3g (4g, lol)

Props to getaphixx for this shot!

haha, that sucks :/ You might want to put a request over at the XDA. Maybe have Ririal to incorporate something like that in his ROM? lol

There's a few apps that'd take you to the phone setting to switch. I don't believe they have the ability to switch with a press of the button.

Try switchPro or widgetsoid (what I use) from the market.

I too am in the same boat, I would give anything right about now to be able to force edge mode, the tower next to my house is giving off a bad 4g signal that doesn't allow anyone using atrix use their Internet, it's been like this for 7days now do to a recent flood that came through, everyone on 3 g doesn't seem to be affected, I know of I could get it on 3 g or edge it would work, I guess I am at the mercy of att for getting their tower fixed, they don't seem to be making it a priority either since it only is affecting 4g. Please if anyone knows how to unlock the settings that att has maliciously greyed out that allows us to switch to edge only please share this info

Read post # 7, it tells you how to do it. Select GSM only, edge only till you switch it back, even after powering on/off.

SELECT NETWORK is disabled on my Atrix 2 through AT&T. It's set to auto. Sorry, I tried to delete this after reading the entire thread but couldn't find a delete button. When I hover over the EDIT I see a DELETE option, but could never find a way to do it.
