I am kind of an import guy, but I am not against a good domestic either. My next car will be "American."

the Mazda Miata is made by Ford so it's not a true Import. in fact the Mazda B2000 is just a rebadged Ford Ranger

Er...Ford has owned from 3% (currently) to 33% of Mazda. I wouldn't exactly say that means a car made in Hiroshima is "made by Ford". Am I missing something?

@Speed Mazda is a brand by Ford. Ford, Mercury, Lincoln, Mazda. at one time i think they had some brand in Jaguar but that may be gone now. the 1993 Mazda B2000 is identical in almost every way both in appearance and mechanical to the 1993 Ford Ranger. the front clip is 'slightly modified' but it's badge-engineered.

the Mazda up top still looks like a Miata. the RX-7's interior and external was very different. i think it was last made in the 1980s if i am not mistaken. if this car is called the RX-7 it may be just a name just like the 'new' Ford Fiesta (another 1980s econobox) or 'new' VW Rabbit (yet another). it's a revival but not the real deal. in the pics the interior and outside look exactly like the mid-90's Miata. the RX-7 had a rotary engine, too.

No...sorry but that's just not right. Mazda is a bona fide Japanese automaker that has been around almost as long as Ford has been. Although Mazda and Ford have had joint ventures, and Ford has recently owned a much less than controlling interest in Mazda, it's just not true to say that Mazda is a Ford brand.

Jaguar is a British automaker that's been around as long as Mazda, and just like Mazda has been its own brand for its entire existence. Jaguar has had several owners over the years, and Ford was one of them. (It's currently owned by Tata Motors, no joke.) But not once has anyone been able to walk into a Ford dealership and buy a Mazda or a Jaguar brand car with the blue oval on it. It never happened.

No, the Mazda Miata MX-5 did not have a rotary engine. Ever. The Miata is still in production, but the RX-7 ended production in 2002, and has been replaced by the RX-8. An RX-9 is reportedly in the works. The RX line of Wankel engine cars has been evolving since the 1960s, and is 100% Mazda of Japan. Neither car has the slightest relation to the VW Golf/Rabbit. Just because a certain form factor is popular doesn't mean that only a single company is making every car of that form factor.

People who aren't gearheads, and never followed automotive stuff can learn all of this on the Internet.

the 1993 mazda b2000 shares NOTHING with the ford ranger. the ranger didnt become a mazda rebrand until 94. at that time it was b2300/b3000/b4000. before 1994 the mazda b-series was 100% japanese. i own one. i was also a ford tech for 8 years.

the mazda rx7 posted a few posts up is an FD-3s. 1993-1995 and available only as a twin turbo. again....shares nothing in common with any ford. the miata also doesnt share anything with a ford.

the ford probe IS built on the same platform as the mazda mx6.

the RX7 you posted is an FB. the first generation. the silver one posted above is the last generation.

No prob. I was getting a headache too. If it takes a Ford guy with a German surname to set the record straight about the one company to really give the Wankel rotary engine it's due, so be it.

Never did like the Veyron as a car. Sure, its complex and powerful. And ugly and bloated, too.

I totally agree. It's just the most expensive car i could find a picture of.
My real car is a '94 Audi and it's too dirty to take a picture of.

I'll see your Veyron and raise you a Lamborghini Veneno. I happen to be one of the three owners. I'll sell you one, along with the Eiffel Tower.

Was it a Wankel I assume?
I had an '86 626 Turbo (not a rotary).
That thing would haul some serious ass especially going from like 60 to 100. Got a little shaky much faster than that.
