Default We have root!

Looks like the guys over at modmymobile have come up with a method to root our phone! It is based on the droid 2 root method, and several people are having issues getting it to work, but at least 3 or 4 people have confirmed that they got it to work. I will be trying it as soon as I can get to a computer. Check out the thread here: [ROOT] All versions of Backflip

even if this root works, i still think the dev community will be extremely small. so we probably won't be seeing many roms coming around. but i'm stoked to oc my backflip!

This root definitely works, I was successfully able to root my backflip on the first go and I have used a couple root-only apps to test it out, and everything is looking good so far. And yeah, I think you're right about the small development community, but luckily some things done for other devices should be relatively easy to shift over to the backflip, especially if it can be done on the Cliq since it is a pretty similar device.

I personally plan on giving a go at putting together a vanilla android rom. Haven't put together any roms in the past, but my several years of programming experience should help out. I'll make sure to let everyone know if/when I have something working.

I'll post as soon as I have anything, but don't expect it to come very quickly. I'm new to building roms, so it'll take me a while to figure stuff out, and with school starting and such I don't have a ton of time on my hands as it is. Just saying this so you don't get your hopes up that it will be out any time soon. As I said, though, I'll let everyone know when I have something running.

just rooted this phone with the z4root app. way easier then the method in the link mentioned in the OP. Backflip wont let you install it once you download it, so just put the app in your C:\androidsdk\tools\z4root.1.3.0.apk. then with the command prompt
adb install C:\z4root.1.3.0.apk then run the app and your rooted.
