Default 2 ROM questions.

1: where do I save roms too that I download off of the computer?

2: when I flash a rom I lose all my apps/ contacts/ and SMS. How can I fix this?

You can save them to anywhere on your SD card, just remember where you put them. When you flash a new ROM you just choose the zip you want to flash while you are in recovery and choose the ROM zip file that you just placed on your SD.

When you flash a new rom you need to do a complete wipe or it can cause problems. If you are just flashing an update to your current rom then a wipe is not always necessary. Titanium backup pro makes things a lot easier after a wipe and new rom install.

So It has to be a zip file? And I can put it anywhere?

Thats the confusing part. I am trying to load cyanogen on my backflip from rom manager and when it flashes titanium backup isn't there.

If you use rom manager to download your rom then it will download it and when it is complete there will be a pop up on your screen, just select install rom and hit ok.

You have to get titanium backup from the market

Do you have a good backup? You need to restore a backup and re download the rom, with gapps. It sounds like your gapps didn't download properly, because the market is included in that.

Are you a member of XDA? I know that is where I find all my support for CM7.

What phone are you on? I should be able to find good download links for you for CM7 and gapps, that you can download directly and install without using rom manager as it seems to have problems on some phones.

I have never had a phone that restricted side loading. Can you put files on your SD?

Also what is ROM loader? I have always used ROM manager

I flash the ROMs from Recovery (CWM), as I don't trust ROM Manager on my phone.
Easy to do by simply renaming the ROM as Update.zip, boot into Recovery, wipe and flash.

For a phone specific cases (Backflip), I suggest to discuss this in Backflip forum section.

Have you searched XDA? That is where I find all of my info for the Nexus S, including ROMs and kernels.
