Default Is it possible to manually install Android 2.1 on Backflip?

I recently purchased a Motorola Backflip phone and I really want to be able to download newer apps, such as Google Navigation and Google Goggles, but the Backflip runs on Android 1.5 and won't be getting updated until Q3.
Is there any way that I can manually install the update to the phone?
I'm guessing the reason it can't be updated easily is because Motoblur is designed to run on Android 1.5 so they have to completely update Motoblur to do it, but if Motoblur were disabled, would it then be possible?

The short answer is "no". The design and lack of source code for the Backflip have made it difficult to root and build custom ROMs.
