Default Custom Behold 2 Kernel.. ODIN Ready. 1.5

Okay Guys
First off I want to thank these Dev. for there hard work..
Kam187, Mastermind278, droiddev, mobileband, My420Time, rkhalil2009,
Nu11u5

DON'T extract the file(s) from the tar that you download, the file that you download IS what you need. Load Into the PDA setting in ODIN Flasher!

Based On New & Old Kernel.

- 1 Step Root!
- Full Access To the System by Typing ADB Shell
No more tr3 root hack!

-Default.prop Edit's
ro.secure=0
ro.allow.mock.location=0
ro.debuggable=1
persist.service.adb.enable=1

-Init.rc Edit's
I changed the System Re-mount to rw
You can now adb push Anything to /system or /data

This mean's YOU have Root via SH After Flashing, no more using Cat to Push something & No more running the Re-mount Command! Best Of all, we now Have Root without messing with try3 ( asroot )..

New Revision 3 ( New Kernel )
Based on New Kernel thanks to > Nu11u5
Shell Enabled Root-Full ADB Access-Root Permission's for App's Set By User
SU Permission Fix per Reboot for Persistent Root for App's (Must Push SU to Bin on Factory Rom)
Kernel is Backwards Compatible with Old WiFi Driver's

Here's the Odin Ready Kernel Download. This is the Kernel Only. Works with all Known Ports & Factory Rom!
Download > Update-T939UVJA3_Rooted_Kernel.tar

OLD Revision 2 ( Old Kernel )
Shell Enabled Root-Full ADB Access-Root Permission's for App's Set By User
Root For App's On stock Rom needs SU in /system/bin & chmod 04755

Here's the Odin Ready Kernel Download. This is the Kernel Only. Works with all Known Ports & Factory Rom!
Root_boot.tar

Old Revision 1 (Old Kernel )
Here's the Odin Ready Kernel Download. This is the Kernel Only. Works with all Known Ports & Factory Rom!
T939UVIJ6-PDA-CL81521-REV1.tar

It's not about the Code / Changes I made.
The Problem is un-splitting the Image back into a Boot.img..

Is this a proof in concept or does this bring us something feature/performance wise that we didn't get with your stock ROM?

Thanks again for all your work on the Behold II.

- Secure is now Off
- Try3 is no longer Needed.

P.s.
Working on the Updated Kernel Right now.. So everyone can Use it as well

-Init.rc Edit's
I changed the System Re-mount to rw
You can now adb push Anything to /system or /data

Is this a good idea? I don't know a whole lot about android security, but having this done by default seems like it would be a security risk.

It's been Like this forever now On the G1 / MyTouch 3G / Droid / Cliq / Samsung Moment...

Anyone that has been around and using Cyanogen Mod's are used to this ( Like Myself ).

Trust me, you want this stuff enabled.
When Disabled, it's designed to keep you out of the System / Phone Period!

*edit*
To clear this up a bit.... Only thing that has Full Read - Write Access is you when using adb shell.... Everything is un-changed

so does this help us advance any further in relation to an upgraded OS?
So the tar file above is now the one to use? And it has full root already in it, all you have to do is flash it from odin? If so then wow BH_MAN I'm impressed!

I might pee my pants if this kernel edit is what we need to run galaxy 2.1 from GAOSP!

I was thinking when I get time to pull the Galaxy Kernel & placing into the Ramdisk & re-package it. Since the Hardware is almost the same, it might work, but not likely...

Well, looks like I need the Odin from the New Update.. Changing out Kernel's Breaks the Hack

It boot Loops, at first I thought I did something wrong. But, I've been able to produce the Old Kernel Mod several Times using the same Method. It looks like it's Checking the Header of the Boot.img against the Kernel version, which is Really weird!

My Hats off to Samsung on locking this down as Tight as they did.

Still Trying to work around it though

So for those of us who are illiterate with all of this tech talk, am I correct in this translation?

BH_MAN is working on a way to get the updated kernel out to everyone? Essentially getting the full update as delivered from Samsung/TMobile minus the bloatware?

correct, plus his new way gives us 100% "true" root. Also he is working on making the custom kernel, so that we may run galaxy 2.1!

I have (well for the next few days) an extra Behold2 (no update, but have not tried to force it yet) that needs to be returned to TMO. Is there anything I can do to help test with this unit since I have no fear of bricking it?

Great work BH_MAN!!

I'm staring at a kernel dump of UVJA3 right now. I'll get it uploaded within the hour.

FYI, the AMSS code also changed in the new version. I'll bundle that in as well.

Cool thanks...
It's not liking something for sure, and to be honest not sure I can Fix it.
But I'm Positive that it's the Header not Matching, which is hard to reproduce given I don't have the header from an Updated ODIN file for the kernel.

where would you have to get an Updated ODIN file from? Samsung is the only one who can make this?

From a Leak But, I don't want anyone losing there Job just so we can Play.
It would be Nice, but the Cost wouldn't be worth it.

But I'm Positive that it's the Header not Matching, which is hard to reproduce given I don't have the header from an Updated ODIN file for the kernel.
ODIN is not accepting the tar files?

There is no special Samsung header involved. The tar files have to be in usTar format. I've posted about this here: http://androidforums.com/samsung-behold-2/50366-ota-firmware-uris-found-work-still-needed-2.html#post428189

Also.. it sounds like your custom kernel is a drop in replacement for the original. Does this mean you got RFS working?!

The kernel and AMSS dump files are here: http://www.2shared.com/file/12161860/ae26249c/uvja3-rawfiles.html

Yes it's Drop in, but I only Modified the Ramdisk. RFS is working fine
This could be the source of the trouble when trying to add the new Kernel to the Ramdisk. But, not sure as of now. Not had whole lot of time to play with it.

I found an error in the Edited kernel I posted... Even though it allows rw, I forgot to set the SH as root so SU will work correctly for Superuser.apk /system/bin/su

I'll get an update posted shortly.

It's the Older Kernel...
But to be Honest, like I said... My Buddy at Samsung said there's nothing Life changing in the Kernel.

The changes where mainly in the OS not the Kernel.

FYI, the AMSS code also changed in the new version. I'll bundle that in as well.
I had a Look at the AMSS, Um? I'm not going to even mess with this.. Though it would be nice to see what the changes was, I would only get one try.. If wrong, well, then I'll be looking at a bricked phone.

I'll leave this one to somebody better at Hex editing than me

Okay, I got the Kernel Done that Enables shell as Root. Man, Samsung really really don't want use messing around with this stuff.. Just adding a Few command into the init.rc breaks everything.... Finally got it working though

With this Kernel you have Full Access via ADB only... Root for App's You must allow / Deny

If you want root for app on a stock rom, you'll need to push the SU file to /system/bin & chmod 04755. Like So.

Quote:
adb push ( File location of su ) /system/bin
adb shell
chmod 04755 /system/bin/su
I'll be including root for apps like I always do in the Rom I make, just want to give a Heads up on this though..

*EDIT*
Revision 2 is Now Posted w/ the Shell Fix

BH_MAN will this modified kernel be included as part of your custom roms? Maybe this is a stupid question.

As of now no... Once I get the system ( Updated ) into a Flash-able image. I'll Include the Kernel & the System in a ODIN ready package.

Have you had a chance to look at the new Galaxy Spica 2.1 ROM? Is that a new kernel as well?
