A2SD Question
I have tried and read as much as I can about this subject. But of course i found conflicting answers. I have Warhead ROM flashed with the Galaxy dialer. I also have A2SD partition setup at 1GB. Will I benefit from shringking it down to 320MB as suggested in the Warheads thread. If so, how do i safely resize EXT2 partion? Do i use GParted live? Thanks in advance. I also have swap set at 64MB I think. Everything works great on my phone by the way, no FC's. Battery life is still 8-12 hours but I can live with it.

You'd be best to partition it via recovery mode. Better back up all your apps using something such as Titanium or ASTRO, and all your important files from your sdcard onto your computer...
0 swap, 320-512mb ext2, rest for saving data from your phone.

Well, if having 1GB EXT2 partition does not hinder performance, I might as well leave it alone, right? I was just concerned if it affects the performance overall of the phone. Thanks for replying.

i read on a site somewhere, can't remember where, that it is recommended to have your ext2 partition no more than 512mb....that anything higher can cause problems. didn't say what kind of problems tho lol.
if you want to keep 1gb, and it's not creating any sort of issue, then keep it the way you have it lol

WTF for lol, 1GB is huge more apps only storage! Unless you plan on downloading like 1000 apps!

Here's an example. I have CoPilot8 which by itself takes 11MB. Then comes the USA map, 1.57 GB So, I just downloaded the western part of the United States and I need 700+MB of space. This way, my maps are in my SD card and I can have navigation even when there's no DATA service. Its a stand alone Navigation app. Google map require data connection to refresh the map. So what if I'm traveling through a dead zone?, no navi. Anyways, the 1GB partition has not caused any problems. I only have 200+MB left on my 1GB EXT2

oh ok lol, I didn't know that the maps could save to the ext2 partition. I thought the went to the FAT 32.
I have 2 questions.Do apps have slower performance and launching speed on sd?I usually put my apps in /system/app folder,it seems to me that apps launch faster from system folder and are not lost uppon system restore.
And should i set my partition to ext2 or should i set it to ext3 or ext4?is there any performance gains for ext4 over ext2?Thanx in advance.

I finally found the time to tackle the A2SD feature of BH_MAN's ROMs. I couldn't get the GPARTED Live CD to work on my MacBook Pro, it wouldn't recognize my USB ports. So I downloaded a KNOPPIXs live CD 6.2 and what do you know, it comes with GPARTED! Wha-La EXT2!!!!!
It seems like I've seen this question in the BH2 forums somewhere, but I just can't find it. Is there any way to see the EXT2 partition to verify A2SD is working? It seems like it's working, but i'd like to see it in the file hierarchy. Also is there a way to move files from the phone to the EXT2 partition without re-downloading?

Install app, turn off phone, take out sdcard, reboot. If apps you installed are gone than it worked.
One more question.I formated sdcard using R10 bootloader,it formated correctly. But when i try to format my sdcard on my laptop i get error "this disk is write protected".That is strange cuz i did same thing on R9 and Bh2 and i never had that problem.

Thanks Iviv73, when I took out the card all my apps were missing, so it's working.
I'd still like to know the directory they are stored in and if I can view it???? But when I shut down my phone and put the card back in, some of my apps were giving me FC problems, (Handcent, Swype keyboard, Camera Zoom, Camera Pro, Nimbuzz) I had to uninstall them and re-download them before they worked again. Now I'm having permission problems with my SD Card?

SD Card Permission Problems
I couldn't get the GPARTED Live CD to work, it wouldn't recognize my USB ports. So I downloaded a KNOPPIXs live CD 6.2, it comes with GPARTED. I Partitioned my 8GB card with EXT2 and Fat32. A2SD seems to be working. Now I'm having permission problems with my SD Card? I can't add a new folder to the SD card using ASTRO, the "new folder" selection is grayed out. Better Terminal shows me as ROOT#, but it looks like my permissions are screwed up when I type in ( #ls -l ) I've provided some screen shots. Does anyone know how I can straighten this out?

Thanks BH_MAN! I thought it was chmod 0777 sdcard, but I didn't know about the ( ( _rw ) part. I saw that in terminal, but didn't know what it meant. Anyway, do you know how it got like this? Did I do something wrong in the partitioning of the SD Card? I'll give it a shot tomorrow. Can't I just type the chmod part in "Better Terminal". I'm looking forward to loading up R11 and kernel 6 too, Thanks again!

BH_MAN it didn't work using "Better Termial", I'm getting ready to try it in ADB. I'm also having a problem with.... If my SD card is removed and I boot up my phone, all my apps are missing, which stands to reason. The problem I'm having is...then when I reboot with my card installed, a bunch of my app's don't work. They just report a "Force Close". I have to delete the app in manager and re-download the app for it to start working again. Is this normal? If so, it hardly makes A2SD worth it.
In ADB:
when I....
chmond 0777 sdcard_rw
I get....
unable to chmod sdcard_rw: no such file or directory
When I ....
chmond 0777 sdcard
it repeats the command as usual, it seems to of worked. But when I check it in Better Terminal on my phone, it didn't take. even after a reboot of phone.

I installed the stock 1.6 w/Twiz last week. Tonight I tackled adding the a2sd (since I was running low on internal disk space).
Since I went from 44MB available to 84MB available (after reboot), is it safe to say that the a2sd install went okay? (the /system/sd/app folder shows several apk files). I'm guessing the 68MB that remains on the internal drive is system files/apps that cannot be moved to the SD card.
Is there a recommend app I can use to view/verify the apps on the SD card?
Hmm... Clearly I've done something wrong. I'm running Microhaxo's 1.6 OTA tweaked ROM (Behold II OTA 1.6 Tweaked). I partitioned my SD card and have a linux-ext2 partition of ~500mb. I've got playlogo and playlogo_real showing up in system/bin. I also have app, app-private, and dalvik-cache folders in /system/sd. This would seem like a correct thing for successful a2sd.
I don't have any sort of a2sd application though (should I?), and when I install apps from the market they seem to get put in the phone's memory and not my SD card. When I go to settings/sd card & phone storage, my available space in the internal phone storage shows up as about 15 mb left. I installed a program from the market and my internal storage space went down to 12.5mb. I am getting low storage space warnings too.
Do we have to adb push all our apps onto the SD card manually, or should they install themselves automatically?

pretty sure when you install with A2SD working, its automatic. It was when I was using the BH_MAN roms. I tried pushing this in the bearsfan85 rom, and it didn't work. I'd like to get it working, but my knowledge base for android is limited compared to others on this forum.
I have BhMAN 1.6 stock, does sdparted work? Tried recovery mode , if that screen with " BhMAN !" is recovery mode ...
Else do i need to partition to use A2sd? Tried instructions from start of thread but apps still do not install in SD.
i am posting this message again because i did it on a wrong thread. sorry.
anyway,
i am a newbie and i just finished flashing to BH_MAN_16_NoTwiz.
it says that it has a2sd. however, when i downloaded kakao talk and advanced task killer, those were downloaded on my phone memory.
do i need to change settings?
if so, how should i change it?
please explain it in detail because i don't know anything about android.
(i don't even know how to do adb things.)
thanks in advance.
is possible apply the BHman´s app2sd configuration to a 1.6 OTA upgrade (the original upgrade from t-mobile, that i have rooted already, i read that is compatible with behold rom´s, but i cant understand if is possible with stock and no only with modified: without TW, take5, etc), coz i try all behold ports here and all give me alot of FC´s, but i really like move my apps to the SD card... the only things that i made was root the phone and use the root explorer for "clear" some bloatware and programs that are useless here in my country (hotspot, navimaps?, data management, etc) and work well... for gain some MB, but i feel scared trying the app2sd method in the stock unmodified rom
