You'd need to A: Know programming, B: Know Android coding, and C: Have a complete technical schematics of the phone.
A and B are easy (Take a couple of years, but very common).
C isn't bloody likely. The only other option is Reverse Engineering, and that's just as unlikely due to Samsung's security measures.
Oh, right... Then there's the minor thing of actually getting it to all work right.
On the *EXTREME* off chance that someone could sucessfully decompile the 1.x drivers, it would be SLIGHTLY more possible to re-code them to work with 2.x. From the sounds of it, though, that's probably as difficult as obtaining the tech schema/reverse engineering.

if only we actually could derive the drivers from what we do have....but as you said psz, it'll be a complete pain in the a$$ and more than likely probably not happen....

Well being a student majoring in programming I know quite a few people already proficient in programming with java and C++ and as well as hackers. Sounds like a lot of work but most definitely could be done but time frame would be more of the issue I see.

what about using something like astro and pulling files off the phone that way? also is there anyway we could just spoof the phone into thinking its running 2.1 so we could atleast run apps that require 2.x.

That would be like trying to fool Windows 3.1 into thinking it's Windows 7.
Even if you do manage to change the version numbers EVERYWHERE, you'll still be missing all the files, libraries, and whatnot required to actually run those apps.

not trying to be rude, but as of now, this is practically almost abandoned. as stated a few times here and over at androidspin, no bh2 2.1 drivers/rfs/everything needed to make this function correctly on this phone, no 2.1 rom development.
I wonder what recent turn of events has suddenly given everyone so much faith in a 2.1 ROM. Is it because of the leaked 2.1 for the Galaxy Spica? Eugene, please give us some news update on what you're thinking/planning.

Don't stop From Selling it... 2.1 will never work 100% correctly.. I'm doing this out of spite... Once I get it Fast enough & smooth enough, I'm Going to post a Youutube Video & Ask why Samsung thinks it not able to Run 2.1 / 2.2 ? Fact of the matter is it will never been an everyday Rom to use, still Missing Much need parts..
This is more of, Hey Samsung.. Stop lying to everyone type of deal at this Point..

i agree with bh_man...........i sold my behold 2 on craigslist, it wasn't worth keeping this device anymore because it seems like it was made for nothing. i do thank bh_man for making a custom 1.6 rom for it which made it better, but that fact of not having 2.1/2 while other devices will have makes you feel outdated, and i don't like being outdated.
i would go ahead and continue to sell the behold 2 if i were you as bh_man said 2.1 will not fully work on behold 2.
and yeah i hope he does get it running so he can show samsung via youtube that 2.1 CAN run on the behold 2. they will be so shamed when thousands of views and comments towards it would be like, lol everyone cursing samsung ahahahaha and i will be amongst those who are. SCREW SAMSUNG!!!!.................but i will continue to use their digital cameras lol :P

The issue ultimately lies with their featurephone skin touchwiz. If this phone were like the Moment we would be set for a long time.
Hats off to BH_MAN for sticking it to the... man? Your work has turned from awesome to awesome-er in short order. We're Sammy's customers first, revenue streams second.
I agree on the selling deal. Although even at $215 & unlocked I am having 0 hits on mine from Craigslist in both NYC and Central NJ . Probably will give it as a hand-me-down to my mother.

This is starting to seem like the LHC, i have a feeling if 2.1 is every ported there will be a rip in the time space continuum and we will get engulfed in a black hole
no offense but tmo ah ship me another for free in 2 days so what do i have to lose, maybe i can complain and get a mytouch slide for freesince i been with them for 6yrs

well if this is true then samsux is right. or do you think samsux could make it work 100%.
I think much-needed parts in this context means drivers from Samsung. The only way they'd be unable to do it themselves is if there's some kind of weird licensing issue which is possible, but I think it's unlikely. Samsung just wants to focus on developing and selling new phones because there's no money in software updates for stuff you've already sold.
The Samsung Behold 2 for T-Mobile greatly improves on the first version of the phone by adding Android to the mix, providing for a powerful combination of hardware and sowftware. With Android, Samsung's custom TouchWiz UI, a 3.2-inch AMOLED Tou... Read More
