My 1st behold 2 keep showing "preparing sdcard" and would reset all my ringtones/message alerts back to stock...twice a day. i swapped out phones and it did it again. swapped out memory cards and it was good for a week but it just did it today? anyone else having this problem
I've read about others having mounting/unmounting issues, but I've been lucky enough to not experience any of these. Today, however, I quickly glanced at my phone and for a second or two saw a notification that said "Preparing SD Card." It didn't do anything to my phone--no ringtones/notifications were changed--so I don't know what it means.

This is the exact problem that ive been having with my sd card and phone. ive already swapped phones for a new one and even got a new sd card and the problem persist. Mine went as far as to say that the sd card was unreadable, and suggested that i format it. Im curious what size card do you have in your phone. i have a 16gb sd card with about 6gb of info on it
I had a 2gb sd card at first, then swapped phones. Then they gave me a 4gb sdcard and it took a week to start doing it again. i have also noticed it as powered down and back on again a few times.
It is a phone glitch as its brand new some probaly have a bug in them, unless they just made a bad batch of sd cards but then way more people would have that problem with different phones.
Next time it does it im calling tmobile, as ive already swapped phones and sdcards other than switchimg to a different phone(which i dont) I dont what to do

im not sure what to do either. I really like everything about the behold 2, at this point its a minor iritation, jus like not being able to disable messaging app. I just keep a backup of my sd card on my lap top, Im sure its something that can be fixed with a software update.
I got rid of mine, it was reseting the memory card at random, and from what I understand its a usb bug in the OS, dont quote me on that, its 3rd party info. i've never seen it on other phones, but its supposed to be fixored in 1.6. I talked to Samsung 3rd level, they didnt have a clue.
My behold 2 reset much less frequently with a card other than sandisk in it.
I tried a class 6 transcend 4gb and I never noticed a reset.
Hello. Brand new to Android forums. I came looking for advice on this exact issue. So far my SD card has been de-/re-mounting once or twice a day. Inexplicably, my ringtone does not reset, just my message tone. At first I thought it was due to it being a short mp3 I made, so I remade it and saved as a wav this time. Didn't help. It is a sanDisk, and someone said they didn't have a problem when they switched brands of SD cards. Has anyone else tried switching brands and met success? Has everyone else that's been having problems been with sandisk?

Mines is a sandisk 16GB card. I did read that kingston cards are not giving the same problem but i dont want to run out an buy a new card just yet. Im not sure if it would solve the problem. I did read in another thread that formating the card on your computer via fatt32 has helped, i did do a quick format on my cpu but am currently doing the slower fatt 32 formatt to see if it helps. I also talked to some tmobile reps last week that told me that this did happen on the g1 prior to the 1.6 donut update, so hopefully a 2.0 update to eclair will take care of this. early adopters always get stuck with these bugs
UPDATE: Just fatt 32 formatted my card, ill keep everyone posted on how it works out

do we have any idea when an update will be sent out. when it does if it doesnt fix the problem Im not sure what the next step is, Does tmobile let us get a different phone( which i dont want) ?
Well I got on the phone with tmobile, the lady was very helpfull though she had not heard about the phone problem she was able to extend my "take back" period so I can exchage the phone at the store for the same or different one
Hello everyone, I just got my Behold II and I am having the same problem. However, I did notice if I had it in mass storage mode and use a Mac (snow leopard) or Win XP, I don't have any problems.
So it indeed might be a usb problem with Win7 and maybe vista.
WOW yeah I have also seen this. All I can say is the update will be coming...when? no clue but when it does...it's going to be PEANUT BUTTA JELLY TIME!
I had that problem but I found out that I didn't have the SD card in all the way. That metal thing where you slide the sd card into has to "snap" back down. If you don't hear or feel that snap then the copper on the back of the card isn't connecting with the phone so it don't read it. Ever since I made damn sure it snapped in right I've had zero problems. That was in my case anyway.
I have exchanged this phone 4 TIMES !! 3 of my phones have had the sd card issue. There is a setting where you can shut off the alert. So at least you dont have to hear it
My big issue is 3 of them have shut off and when trying to power on it just sits frozen at the ANDROID screen... anyone else seen this? My current phone did it last night. (I had it less than 24 hours) And tech support did a hard reset. (Lost all my apps and everything but phone came on)
this is my 3rd phone, so far it has been a little over 24hrs and cross my finger, still ok. Is there a setting to shut off the sound when you unplug your phone from the charged, at 6 in the morn the last thing I want to here is that.
Still no luck i see. Just tonight I've tried reseating the memory card and switched the USB setting off of USB mass storage. i'll let you know if i see any progress.
also, did anyone experience this:
i put three wav files on my sd card to use as sound msg tones. one by one they somehow became corrupted. i couldnt get them to play on the phone, and when i tried to copy them to the computer and then play those files, they wouldn't play. i had to replace them to get them to work again. anyone?
In my experience, when it was broken, it was random whether it would work or not. If you are using Vista or Win 7, try using a friends PC that has XP or a mac and see if that helps.

can you clarify what you mean by 'using' xp/mac/vista/7? do you mean for file management? and when you say 'when it WAS broken'. does that mean yours works now? thx
Hmm I never formatted my sd card. Just used it how it came in the box.
I was trying to transfer music to the sounds folder. When I did it on my win7 box, it would randomly unmount in the middle of the file transfer. Sometimes a file would get transferred before it unmounted, sometimes not.
I tested on a mac and win XP machine and was able to copy a lot of music over with no problems on those.

I dont know if they were wav files but on my 1st behold 2 my aol "touve got mail" text alert would stop playing and I had to reinstall it to get it to play before it messed up again.
but this is day 3 of the new phone and so far so good.
edit...never mind it just did it

I was just searching the forums for this when I came across this thread. I have a Droid and I am starting to have these same issues. I have noticed that the ringtones I have selected from the SD card for certain contacts have reset themselves to be the same ringtones for all my other contacts which is a stock ringtone on the phone. This has happened twice now at random. My notifications for email/sms etc. havent had a problem yet and they are also from the SD card. It just seems to be ringtones for some reason. Another issue I am having with both ringtones and notifications is they will actually change speed and play real fast somehow. Kind of like if you have a record and speed it up so it sounds like the chipmunks. Again this is completely at random. I did have an SD card issue when i first got the phone where it deleted all my pictures and video I had taken with the phone and then wouldnt work unless I reformatted it. Since the reformat its been fine until this new problem. I hope someone can figure out the cause.
I am having slightly different SD card problems. I have a 8g Kingston that has worked fine for almost three weeks. I formated it FAT32 in Vista with Quick Format. I have about 4g of music, photos and data on it. I have never seen a warning about mounting it. (I have even removed it without unmounting it, oops)
For some reason the music player wont scan the whole SD card right. Every time I start the music player it says "Media Scanning" and just sits there. Ive let it sit for 30 minutes. Then the music player only shows 1/3 of the music on the SD card. Ive formated and started over 3 times. Still no luck getting music player to see all of the music. If I go through "files" I can play it all but then its song by song. ALL of the music has been encoded to 192 bit directly from CDs with ABCDE in OpenSuse.
Anyway, Im using an 8g Kingston with no mounting problems. Hope that helps some.
Update: Formated the 8g Kingston in FAT32 LBA from OpenSuse (said it had bad sector count). Now music player and everything seems fine. Sees all 7G of music.

Reason: Update
Well I woke up this morning to find my card saying it needed to be formatted. I tried popping it in a card reader I have with hopes of saving the information, but it says the same. The fact that this seems to be common is discouraging.

Fallenturtle can you humor me and let me know what brand of sd card you have?
Luckily I have had no problems with my SD card. I went from the 2GB sandisk (included with the phone) to an 8 GB sandisk using Win XP to reformat and it has worked without a hitch.

How long has it been? I've had the phone a little less than a month and this is the first time the card has lost all its data.

Can everyone with problems chime in with the brand and capacity of their sd cards. While im certain that this is a bug left from 1.5 android ive read that the brand of the card can have an effect. While im not thrilled about buying a kingston 16gb card i will if it will mean an end to this until the 2.0 release.
Update: Yesterday I decided that there was no hope of recovering my data so I went ahead and formatted the card. Today it was back to saying it needed to be formatted. I don't know if its a factor or not, but between when I reformatted and when it unformatted itself I had not mounted the card via the phone or a card reader, so that seems to imply that the issue is not related to mounting the card on a PC or Mac.

Wow you guys still playing with the sandisk brand and android ,,, . If you guys use any other brand but the one that came with the phone 2,4 or 8g ,it don't matter,, your sdcard issue will end . Unless you have already done so and it didn't work for you please don't comment on this fix as I am trying to get it out there for everyone , so don't dis_courage people from trying this , as for me I have been my 8g transend from my G1 ,,, 5 weeks no issues ..

Thats why i was asking people to chime in with brand and size. Iv actuall ordered a 16gb kingston which is suppose to be top of the line, from my research sandisk is a crappy brand but the popular and cheap solution. For those not willing to kick out for a different brand card i understand trust me, im just sick of this and want to enjoy my phone worst comes to worst i have an extra card. From what ive read 2.0 should fix this, its left over 1.5 crap possibly agitated by samsungs customization of stock android ui.

The fact that I would be required to purchase an additional sd card because the one shipping with the phone is a piece of crap is very frustrating. When you pay for something, you expect it to work.

Buddy sdcards are very cheap $15 to $30 ,, think of it as buying a holster for your phone ,,,, just an add-on . Not all smartphones ship with sdcards preinstalled , and sadly Samsung went sandisk, which is really not fully compatable with mobile phones . Some of the cards you going to see mentioned here were made for smartphones , and would be your best choice .... OR you can leave it as is and wait for 2.0...... Your choice...

That reminds me, I still need to buy a case and a screen protector for this thing.
I do have another sd card from an older phone at home I'm going to try it with, but unfortunately I think it may too also be a SanDisk.
So far I've had no problems with my older sandisk 256 meg card, so it seems to be specifically the 2 gig that came with the phone, which, according to T-Mobile, is not covered by warranty. I wonder if it's under warranty with sandisk.
I bought an 8 gig Kingston a few days ago (so far so good) after my 8 gig sandisk reformatted for the umptenth time. I must say it's a vast improvement. It got to the point were i couldn't even put music on my sd card because it would give me some unsupported error glitch and reformat within a day.
Kingston > Sandisk

The Samsung Behold 2 for T-Mobile greatly improves on the first version of the phone by adding Android to the mix, providing for a powerful combination of hardware and sowftware. With Android, Samsung's custom TouchWiz UI, a 3.2-inch AMOLED Tou... Read More
