Default Info - how to get full signal (steady) and consistently fast 3g speeds

I am using a zte warp stock gingerbread 2.3.5 rooted phone. Your phone does not have to be rooted for this to work. You need cdma workshop to change your prl to a sprint prl. I use 60683.prl. there are other methods to change your prl.. that will be fine. As long as you change to a sprint prl.
Step one. Change your prl
Step to. Go to settings>wireless and networks>mobile networks.
Step three. Change network mode to EvDo only.
Step four. Go to dialer and dial *983*3640#. Scroll to bottom of page and confirm network mode is EvDo. Do not change anything, you will get FC.
Step five. Reboot your phone and run speedtest app from market.
Step six. Thank me if this helped you.

Ultimately what you have done is put your phone on sprint towers using their EvDo network which is way better than boosts cdma. Your phone will still use sprint cdma but your 3g will be purely sprint EvDo.

You do realize that if people do this, they will probably have terrible signal majority of the time...I wouldnt at all recommend purely evdo, most people arent in zones that have excellent coverage...i think its awesome your trying to help but...for example im in Upstate NY, if I did that, id never have service...removing the proxies is enough to increase speed, not changing to EvDo only...there are new / inexperienced people on this forum who will try this, and end up having no signal...bc if EvDo is not available where they are, the phone will just show no data signal at all

If you live in a city with amazing coverage, and you NEVER travel out of that city, then MAYBE id recommend this, otherwise, i think , its absolutely pointless/will make signal/speed worse. Sorry to be harsh but I tell it how it is. EVEN in cities that have maximum 3g coverage, phones constantly switch to 1x/back depending on # of connected phones /tower...time of the day...many things...

Default so make sure you have EvDo in your area?

I live in podunk middle tn lol and before changing to purely EvDo my phone signal was 3 to 4 bars to none at all. Now my signal is 96% (5 bars) and steady. My 3g speeds went from 100 -400 kbps to 1100 - 2100 kbps. I understand boost is expanding its coverage to 4g and EvDo in most areas.

Please don't hesitate to share and thats awesome actually, I just didnt quite grasp how that would help but your area must be much better coverage...I wasnt " bashing" your idea, i was just expressing mine . hell i might give it a try but i know signal is so shotty in my town that it will 99% most likely make it worse for me, but i guess in highly coveraged areas, it would help alot..possibly...;\

Whats the harm in trying.... it takes like 60 secs to change your prl.. as long as you know what your doing.. and 20 secs to change your preferred network type. You can always go back if it doesn't work for you. Its not like your doing irrepairable damage to your phone. Lol

Edit: nvm... I did more speedtests tonight and my speeds are at almost 2mbps... apparently the network was flooded yesterday

Sprint prl helped my 3g at home, from .79meg to 1.5meg, but evdo had no change what so ever. I changed the proxies too. It's almost full bar too. When I have full bars I get up to 2meg, but I had that on the boost prl.

I'm just realizing but evdo is 3g... and cdma is 2g... it doesnt matter if you change to evdo only because you will remain on 3g whenever it is available... changing to evdo only will only make you lose your data signal alot more often

Once you have your SPC code....open the dialer, dial ##3282#, click edit, enter your SPC...go to Multimedia, and you will see RTSP Proxy address:, blank it out ( delete whatever is in there, click okay), do the same with HTTTPPD Proxy address, click okay. Leave the ports the same. but make sure u press the phones menu key, then save.

This is an old post but I had to point out the obvious. Go to settings/wireless & networks/mobile network and you can select evdo, cdma, or both from there, no msl code, no dialer codes.

You will not get any incoming calls or texts if you select EVDO only. You will also not receive any voice mail alerts either. It is a great option though at night if you want excellent data speeds and don't mind the above issues.

Maybe someone could figure out a way to do it.. a couple of questions.. when you change your prl; where is it stored? And there is an entry for "prl" in build.prop... could it be changed that way?

A proxy is a server that requests information from other servers... kinda like a third party. All of your browsing goes thru the proxy and possibly stored... who knows. I just dont want my browsing history stored in a remote server simewhere so i deleted mine. As far as increasing yiur speed; web pages might load a few miliseconds faster since you dont have to go thru another server.
I think theres a thread for obtaining your spc in the "all things root guide". I used the alogcat method. It was the fastest and easiest for me.

Boost works off of sprints network, so instead of using Boosts towers, it uses sprints, which appear to be faster, atleast for me. results may vary

Im on my phone now so i dont have the links for the threads but you first need to find your spc aka your msl code.... you could call boost and try to convince them to tell you or you could search the forums for instructions how to use alogcat (dl from the play store)......oncd you have that you need tosearch forums to find out how to change you prl.....all i did was search the forums for answers
Try a search for dfs cdma tool
This is the program i used to change my prl....it wasnt hard but its not for the faint of heart either.... i am very comfortable with computers which helps tremendously if your afraid of modifing your registry on your comp then you might not want to try this as that would be the equivalent on a pc (imo).

Not sure where it is stored, but I know the build.prop value does not change when you swap PRL's via CDMA Workshop or DFS. I actually just tested this method by accident because I switched away from a Sprint Corporate PRL back to the one I had previously, and afterwards pulled up the build.prop in your ROM to glance it over and noticed it showed the stock Boost PRL of 61007.

Can I make a small note.

Be super careful in these programs. Like only flash a prl but make a backup of all your settings first.

True, or your phone could end up getting parted out like poor nove had to do. The guide that was posted for dfs was very well written with pictures and I suggest anyone trying to change a prl use it and read carefully.

Tis true. I'm experienced at flashing phones but I've still killed some (mostly LG)

Hence why i no longer have a warp and is being taken apart as we speak. Funny thing is..i now have an LG that i bricked but was able to unbrick. (the Warp i was using dfs tool trying to diagnose an issue changed one nam value...shot..just changing prl alone usually is safe but you really must be careful since similar tools are used.

I spent an entire day setting up a windows laptop with all the software to do this, Put a logcat on the phone, all the stuff. Found my msl, learned the software to flash prl's all of it. Flashed different numbers of and on ALL DAY!!! No difference at all, As a matter of fact, my phone performed better with the prl assigned to it by Boost!!! 61009. This post is for info and data purposes only.
