[ROM] n00b (B10 based) VIII.II FULL Install 1/23/2013
Overview
For all us n00bs out there, this ROM is a collection of my favorite mods/changes along with a light theming to de-uglify some of the eyesores that shipped stock on this phone.
My goals for the ROM are stability, a small footprint and a clean look & feel. See next post for specs, removed apps etc, and post three for tips/tricks.
This ROM can be flashed straight from stock, unrooted and without CWM recovery!!!!!
Well, they don't hate it...
Here's what people are saying:
"Back home where I belong. Rom wise, Apt wise.
The storm is over, Phone wise, Weather wise.
Done with the Flashing an Splashing.
No more Testing. Time for Nesting.
Sorry I ever Left this great Rom!!
Cause it truly is the BOMB!!!" -LilBit
"This is the first time I install and since then I haven't had any random reboots I love your rom." - TyRantxHD
"Mr. Bobo awesome work. My phone is running so much better. And now with the optional custom Kernal update my phone is moving at warp speed! Love it. Thanks." - tatiniumzte
This is an unreal ROM. I cannot believe how fast this made my phone. Tested everything before installing my apps, no problems so far. Great Work!!! - esparks004
...and many many more, you guys make it all worth the time and effort!

Alternate Themes*:
SystemUI.apk for themers, (n00bVII SystemUI.apk causes an error on UOT Kitchen) Normal users are not effected, this is just a fix so you can use UOT Kitchen to theme the files if needed. I will include this fix in the next version of n00b.
*note, I did not create these and do not support them or keep them updated, contact the thread authors for updates/support for the themes
Troubleshooting Steps:
I know you other ROMmers THEMErs MODders and general NEWbies know what I am talking about, when you flash stuff on your phone a lot and put all sorts of test stuff on the sd card, once in a while you just hose up everything.
Classic symptoms of a hosed up system are toggles not sticking, mms not working, buttons not lighting up, etc. (in my case toggles, search and home buttons not working)
Steps to do a Clean Install to fix/troubleshoot (clean install):
clear SD card except what you are flashing, delete all folders/files
wipe data/factory reset
reflash ROM, reboot
reflash update(s) (if applicable), reboot
update prl and profile in settings menu, reboot
at this point it's ok to log into your google account and update system apps, but don't install anything new until after the next step
test everything (if issues now, it's software or hardware, likely hardware if problem is unique to you)
AFTER making sure everything works:
add/remove user apps/data
reflash/install your personal bloatware, reboot
if new problem appears, it's your fault and your problem LOL
This process takes me about half an hour, I do it all the time. I don't use titanium to restore anything and don't restore data, used carefully titanium restores can save some time or bring back data you don't want to loose, but used improperly you can restore issues/conflicts very easily and again you are on your own as far as troubleshooting help goes at that point.
The beginnings of n00b ROM (deconstructed in sequential steps)
For anyone who wants to get into making their own ROM, here are some of the initial steps I took to make this ROM (see posts above for credits to those I learned from, stole from etc):
First I took the stock B08c and Deodexed, zipaligned, updated apks, removed boot sound (cwm flashable): http://db.tt/U3JcfZgL
Second I added crt and power menu to the framework-res.apk, framework.jar and android.policy.jar files (cwm flashable (flash after step 1)): http://db.tt/fEQc9EtH
Next I used titanium to incorporate any updated system apps into the ROM, added replacement apps like the miui camera, experia home launcher and miren browser etc and made them system apps.
Next I themed the framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk in the UOT kitchen and manually added the signal bar icons (created by me in photoshop) and default wallpaper to the systemui.apk and corrected the boot animation folder issue in the UOT zip (flashable zip): http://db.tt/jBkf1D66
After that I was comfortable with the file system and kind of stepped into development level edits, I can't put that in writing, but if you start small you will get there too, Enjoy!
Tutorials/resources (please refer and read the guides on the links and google, if you have questions PM me and I will do my best to answer):
Remember, not everyone here shares the same knowledge, Yet we all had to start somewhere "You cant keep it unless you give it a w a y" If anyone here has helped you out, click Thanks!, Speaking for myself, that one click goes a long way. =)
Might be dumb question...what does flashable mean? >.<
After download of this zip file you go into cwm choose install zip from sd card, that's a flashable zip. A nandroid you would have to unzip, move contents to cwm backup to install.

Great work. So far this has been one of the best ROM's I have used on the Warp. Stable, smooth, and easy to modify. Also thanks for leaving Voice Dialer on there.
One suggestion- I would add the app SD Booster to the ROM. I pulled up your SD cache at 128k and opened it up to 2048k and the difference was night and day.

Love the rom, especially the extended power menu, but I have one big issue. Titanium Backup always locks up when I try to restore a single app. It batches fine but not all of my apps install so I need to do a few manually. I've tried redownloading the TB, wiping cache and dalvik cache, fix permissions and zipaligning but no change . Any suggestions?
Also, I know you said it took a while to get your extended power menu working but would it be possible for you to have it say "rebooting" when you pick the reboot option, rebooting to recovery when you reboot to recovery and so on instead of powering off?

Try installing your apps from the play store then restoring the data only for the apps in titanium, or advanced restore just the data partition from your last cwm backup if you were on stock b08c

I must agree. This is the smoothest ROM I have used thus far. Very stable (Actually more stable than the stock B08c ROM that came with the phone). Great work, I look forward to your updates in the future.
I just wanted to drop in and say thanks for this rom. I have used all of your themes in the past... first i had the wp7 rom with your theme then to shins, also themed by you, and when i saw you post your rom, i was sure i was going to like it....and i do! Its very smooth, and minimal issues. I love the slimmed minimal look of everything. I have had a few issues tho, not sure if they are rom issues, or just boost service...or what ...but here they are:
1) Im having an inordinary number of texts not get sent. i get the red exclamation point saying error sending text. I have to resend 5-10 times sometimes before it actually pushes the text through. This hasnt happened to this extent with any other rom. But, again, im not saying the rom is to blame here.
2)Last night i had a one time issue with gps..I turned gps on with the widget you included. Used it, then turned it off. Well for some reason, the icon kept showing like gps was on. I went into settings menu and toggled settings there to see if that would fix. It didnt. had to reboot phone for it to clear the gps icon. Havent been able to duplicate the issue yet, but dont use gps often. (again could be unrelated to the rom)
3)Im experiencing the same issue with TB not restoring all aps with batch operation, i have had no issue however when i go into to manually restore the apps that it left out.
All in all, love the rom. Super job, and thank you

Did you fix permissions after you installed the ROM? I was having an issue with my wifi, but it settled in when I fixed permissions.

If you did a cwm backup or used titanium you should be able to restore the apps
I got them back, I have one problem. My memory card is a 16gb I had about maybe 8gb left, after I installed this rom and backed up my phone with cwn I have 826mb free. I have no clue why all that space was taken like that this is very frustrating >_<

For anyone having a problem restoring apps with TB I have something that might work for you too. Open TB and pull up the preferences menu. Scroll down to App Processing mode and select "AUTO, Inderect". 9 times out of 10 this will fix the problem. Hope this helps.

Just a hunch, between the titanium folder and clockwork folder how much space are those two using?
Best room my warp ever seen!!! 5 stars is not enough.
Installed since yesterday, everything working perfect, tested calls, text msgs, img msgs, emails, music, video, camera (photo & video), gps (google navigation, Sygic, Copilot), Jorte, bluetooth works very well.
Beautiful power menu.
Btw, I restored all my apps (378) with Titanium Backup and didn't have any issues.
Xperia Home works well & very fast. I'm a GoLAuncherEx fan, but XH works faster. Someone knows how to kill a non-responsive app usin XH ? or a light & simple task manager to use ?

The rom is tiny and should not use more than a couple megs of sd card space... I recommend connecting to usb making a copy to your computer, formatting the card and copying back what you need...

I switched back to GolauncherEx, because have lot of features more than xperia home. I instaled SD-Booster, set Cache Size to 512 (4 times 128) and GoLauncherEx is performing as fast as Xperia Home.
This rom + SetCPU + SD-Booster + GouLauncherEx = Happy Warp

After a full day and some tweaking of my own doings, I have to say this rom is the best I've tried so far. I've tried them all that has been released and this one hands down beats them all performance wise on the warp. use with HOLO launcher from the market to get the ICS look and it's just blazing fast all the way around......THANK YOU SIR

I just wanted to update on my last post. First, thanks atlharp for pointing out to fix permisions. I knew i needed to do that but somehow kept spacing actually doing it. After fix permisions (ran late last night) I have run all day today with out any of the issues i reported. I didnt have one unsent text, gps and wifi turned on and off as they should, and TB was a user error on my end i think. Im running this rom with QuickPic as a gallery, Camera ICS+, and zeam launcher. Everything has been working flawlessly since fixing permissions. One question i would like to ask tho is this:
I prefer to use zeam as my main and only launcher. Can i just delete XH from the System/App folder and move zeam from data/app to system app? I tried to do this in the past with on of shins roms, everything worked flawlessly for me until i went to restore a backup i had made of the rom, with my new launcher, and it would load up the phone just fine, but couldnt get past the first turn on lock screen. It was as if no launcher was installed at all. I just want to make sure that i can restore my phone to this calibration in the future, before the deed is already done, as was the case last time.
...And on an exiting note, i just want to again thank Mr. BOBO for all his work, Im back in love with my warp again

Thank you, you are very kind
yes, please do customize the ROM to your liking! go into titanium and long click zeam, make it a system app through that and reboot. Then hit your home button, make sure zeam is the default launcher, then go into titanium, click xperia home and uninstall or freeze, then you are good to go. I have found that method to be reliable.
Enjoy!
