Default [ADD-ON] Mercury Sound Pack flashables

This is a sound pack containing some extra sounds I've found from various sources. The volume has been modified to the maximum on all files without waveform clipping enabled, which ensures the audio will sound its best in every circumstance, and eliminates the crackling and popping you may have heard in version 1. All files have been named to Android's specifications to avoid duplicate or "silent" sound listings, and have been tagged to display the proper name in the system.

It even works on JellyBean! (thanks to LilBit for testing!)

Programs and utilities used in this project:
Audacity
Bulk Rename Utility
MP3Tag
SolMiRe online MIDI to MP3 converter
Waterfox Browser with Video Download Helper add-on
Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate 6

If anyone has any issues, questions or comments don't hesitate to let me know.

Mercury Sound Pack 4

I am currently working on making several themed sound packs. Requests are welcomed, so if you have a theme idea, let me know!

Mercury Sound Pack - ICS & Jellybean Sounds - as requested by LilBit
Mercury Sound Pack - Blackberry Sounds - as requested by LilBit
Mercury Sound Pack - Mario 1
Mercury Sound Pack - Zelda 64
More to come!

Enjoy!

Yes, inside system/media/audio you'll find a set of four folders. The four in this archive replace those.

Thanks, guys :-) I try! I usually just think of stuff that would help me out, then think "Hey, my compatriots on AF might enjoy this too." In this case I had some help. I hadn't got so far as to include volume modified sounds in my ROM before Whitefiretiger's request. Has anyone tried them yet to verify they perform properly when installed in the system? I tested them for volume, and I can attest to one thing and one thing only: they're LOUD!

Unless I'm misinformed, Dropbox requires you to have a Dropbox account to download anything. If you don't have one, feel free to use the link in my signature to sign up. I'll try linking it again using a different method tonight to see if I can circumvent this.

There's a way to make links that work for non members. I loggd into my account and I'm still not getting a page with a download link.

OK so I give you props they work when moved to correct place.

But I think they need more work. They are distorted.

I noticed they sound decent on my PC, but on my Warp I noticed some distortion as well. If you nudge the volume control down a bit, it goes away. I know it seems counterproductive and all to add louder sounds to the phone only to have to turn down the volume, but it works lol

If everyone would like, I can make a version that isn't boosted (and therefore clipped) quite so much.

I haven't tried this yet so... Should I back up my files first?
Also, do I just copy to the folders or is this a zip file to flash?
Thanks!

If you'd like, you can back up your old audio folders, but it's not really necessary. It's not a flashable, just an archive you extract then copy over your old audio folders (alarms, notifications, ringtones, ui) and you're all set.

Edit: For future reference, it is now a flashable lol

Thanks, I figured everyone forgot about this! Glad you like it. I do need to touch them up however, and add some extra sounds I've found since I uploaded this version.

Okay, it seems there's an issue with the file names in this version... I'll upload pack 2.1 soon to fix this. Thanks for understanding, everybody :-)

Ok, soon as we get the file. If it's from some anime, I may know, especially if its Japaneese cartoons.

Nope, she's just a random picture from the internets that I thought might make a rather photogenic background for a ROM :-)

You had trouble opening it? :O Sowwy about that, Bit. I used 7Zip in Windows 7 Ultimate to make the archive; I didn't expect it to give anyone problems :-(

No silly, I just didn't have the software installed. Ubuntu went to it's own software center and found the package and installed it for me. Linux Forever!!

They say, over at XDA, that it's actually easier to make roms, kernals, themes, using the kitchen etc, when you put everything on Linux!! Plus Linux is FREE!!

I agree! From what I've read, Linux is more of a developer's OS. But growing up I spent a lot of time in DOS and I think it'll tilt my brain to rework my understanding of all the low level details.

I'll have to do it eventually, though so I might as well get a jump on it

Dude, if you cut your teeth on DOS, then working in the terminal window in linux is going to be no problem, just different commands is all. Besides Linux is wide open, meaning you can modify it. It's completely open source software. You can even Roll your own distro if you want!!

Funny you should mention that... I spent lots of time back in the day working on making my own DOS-based OS. Well, I guess it was more like a shell with a virtual machine to run its own apps. But yeah, same difference lol

Burn a distro to disk and try it out . Nothing gets installed on your machine that way, see what it's like. The community for Linux is the same as it is here, very big and very helpfull. Check out the Linux forums!! I have a distro called Puppy, it runs off of a usb stick, loads into memory only, Blazing fast!!! I use it when and or if I need to boot my machine when their is a problem, I've also used it to boot windows machines that have crashed. I think your gonna like Linux once you try out a distro. I use Ubuntu, its one of the easiest to learn and use. Puppy is my backup!!

I've actually used Ubuntu before, but it's been forever ago. Never could get all the fancy window animations working. I'll have to fire up the newest version now that I have a real PC to put it on and give it a spin :-D

Well, it doesn't technically apply to every sound I added. Mainly the "Fruit" series (the hint is in the name) and certain other vocal ones :-)

Oh, and one other thing. In conjunction with the development of version 1.45 of my ROM, I'll be releasing another sound pack soon :-)

I copied this and dropped it in the media file. It didn't overwrite anything though. Wasn't it supposed to?

Copy all 4 files over to their corresponding files one at a time. You will then have doubles of everything. But if you move or delete the originals and paste the new ones in, one at a time then you will only have the new sounds amplified. I just dropped them in on top of the others because I was lazy. system/media/audio Then change the four files you see.
