Team Osiris
And downthemachine present:
The Glitch Kernel
Based off hroarks original work

Special thanks to Kroegs, Bocephus87 for donating! Thanks for your support!

I am not responsible for any damage you may do to your phone. This oc has been tested many many times, but going past stock levels could cause damage. You have been warned!

Questions are for the threads only. I will not respond to help questions in pm. All that information should be open discussion.

Now in two flavors
Non oc
And 1.7Ghz OC

Non OC
The kernel everyone has been using on almost every rom
Features:
Swap support
Ext2/3 support removed for more memory
Proper init.d startup
Ramzswap compatible, no script yet

*Added governors for more contol

Glitch Non OC v1.13

Installation instructions:
Make a backup!
Choose install zip in cwm
I would recommend you get an app like voltage control to set frequencies and io schedulers

Recommended apps:
These are the two I tried. I use CPU master pro. I haven't tried the free version. I wouldn't recommend setcpu for anything. I've had many issues with that app.

Paid:
CPU Master Pro

*Special thanks goes out to Hroark13 for the hard work he put into making the original zte source usable. Also for consulting with me during the course of working on it. I'd also like to thank my testers. Without you, this would not be possible. And thanks for putting up with my 30 builds a night testing.

There is a known incompatibility issue with some build.prop modifications where wifi connects but doesn't have data. When I get time I will find the exact modification so it can be removed.

whitefiretiger found that this

video.accelerate.hw=1

In some build props causes issues with wifi. Thank you for the find!

There are also some issues with read ahead speed with oc. I am currently looking into this. Stay tuned
Results for read ahead.
I have found that different governors change the read ahead.
interactiveX gave me the best results for read ahead
Scary is a good balance of speed and read ahead

This is a good explanation of governors and schedulers. there are a million on xda,
but this is the one i picked

6 additional governors were pulled from the initial release for additional testing. That was one

Maybe ill flash it after i disable v6 and kak and see how it works
Edit- so it turns on fine and co nects with v6 its the kak that messes it up somehow. Leavin my wifi on to make sure i still have service after a while.
Edit2- i had to cut testing after my old friend sticky toggles came back. I only ever have the issue with them after turning wifi on but ill deal without wifi

About how much memory is freed up by removing ExtFS support? And does your OC kernel banish the typing lag that Hroark's had?

Honestly I can't tell you about hroarks kernel, it never worked for me. As far as the lag and issues with the other oc kernels it was improper voltages. Mind you this is just a start. I'm still testing new voltage and frequencies to get the best balance.
And as far as support for ext2/3, Hroark had told me that removing support for them may free up some memory. He had also said that support for them are not need with the warp

Ext2/3 are only needed if you plan on setting up a partition with 1 of them and even that can be done with ext4... though I wouldn't mind having btrfs support

I found a build.prop tweak that causes wifi issues with the oc kernel.

video.accelerate.hw=1

Tested on three different roms.

Well I'm not seeing that in the stock prop

But the problem it was making was when you boot with wifi off when try to turn wifi on it would go "turning on" "turning off" wifi wouldn't work till reboot then would switch on off fine till reboot with wifi off then same thing again.

I removed that line and poof no more trouble

I dunno then... I'm running Yoshi with it on and haven't had any problems yet... but I've also only rebooted once since the update...

As far as it being on stock... it's on all the ones I have... though I have to admit it's possible they may not be all that stock lol

Whenever I want to test out new prop tweaks I'll either open a terminal or use adb and the setprop command... that way all I have to do is reboot my phone and it's gone.

Lol sorry... not really sure yet. I'm not anywhere with wifi right now but I can test rebooting with wifi on and wifi off with and without that property set when I get home in a couple hours.

Are we free to use this in our ROMs? With proper credits, of course :-)

I finally found a OC kernel that I can run. I don't have a service on my warp but I am pleased to finally be able to "Install an OC Kernel" that will boot up. yeah on the IconRom v1.0.4

Ok, I can confirm the wifi issue and that removing "video.accelerate.hw=1 " from build.prop fixes it...

As far as read_ahead_kb goes...testing with hdparm I found that 2048 is the optimal setting with my class 10 16gb sd card...I got 221886 kb/s buffer-cache read and 16020 kb/s buffered disk read

thank you. I figured i couldn't be the only one.

So I've got a new mystery problem.
With the non oc kernel everything works great but when i flash the oc kernel I've got two problems that pop up.

1) Wifi finds the network in trying to connect to but it won't connect to it. It tries to connect (even tries to verify) then it drops off. Not once have I gotten wifi to connect and been able to use it.
I even took a long walk and tried on 3 other wifi spots.

2) Bluetooth connects and works great, however, it keeps asking for phonebook access every time I connect even though I checked the box for it to remember my selection.

I flash back to the beta copy of the oc kernel and the problems don't exist.

Is there anything that's incompatible with the kernel that may cause the problems? Or any ideas what between the beta copy and the one in the op may have changed that might cause this?

Smoothkaos had these same issues with my Rom and the new oc kernel and didn't have them with the non oc.

Do you have alot of additions to the build.prop? The beta team had IP address issues on wifi and we found that it was something in the build.prop

I do have a number of tweaks but i thought about the tweaks in the build.prop and tried with all tweaks removed and still had these problems.

Two questions:

1. Is init.d support initalized in this kernel or was that only a feature in project yoshi?

2. Is the source code for your kernel available? I'm curious to see if I can get it to compile...never could get hroarks to. Also would like to try compiling a couple modules against it for my own testing.

Well mine is based off hroarks, source is not yet gpl compliant. Because I do not have wifi at home to push it to my github. And it does have init.d support started in the init.rc in ramdisk

Isn't init.rc like the Android version of the DOS autoexec.bat? And is it the same for Linux as well?

Has anyone had any issues with screen brightness after flashing this kernel?? I flashed OC kernel over Icon ROM 1.0.4 this morning and couldn't adjust the screen brightness, had to load my nandroid. After reloading the nandroid I made prior to flashing kernel all was well with screen brightness. Will test it out again, just wondering if anyone else has gone through this or seen it in any capacity before.

I havent tried reflashing yet, but i find the sticky toggles issue in general can be worked around by turning off WiFi, rebooting, then enabling the setting before turning WiFi back on. I was out in the sun today and had to adjust my brightness to max, and that's when i discovered it wasnt sticking like the keyboard settings. Tried to Fix Permissions with no success.

What were your oc settings? Installed SetCPU only to verify it was running at 1600 Max and 122 Min
Governor OnDemand*
Min 122
Max 1600
Any profiles you had set ie screen off None Set
Was wifi on? WiFi on caused the sticky issues for me

Not 100% sure. My WiFi tends to turn itself on by itself even after I have turned it off in settings. Let's assume that it was probably on.

The Max and Min were from the profile. Normal max and min is 1612 and 122

You may run into issues setting a value between 368 and 768. These are freq that are not in the original source.
Try to set below that and report any changes.
Stuff not setting usually has to do with a script in init.d.

No worries, and I'm quite enjoying it! I was walking around Wilmington, DE for 4 hours today and had 0% Time Without Signal, with WiFi on and searching for a network the entire time

My brightness adjuster works fine on my end. Automatic brightness works and screen not dim.
