Just got the official samsung captivate dock from newegg. It works great, but when I take my phone out, it is stuck in landscape mode. Only restarting the phone will solve the issue. It's like the phone still thinks it's docked after I unplug it.

I am running the leaked froyo 2.2 captivate ROM, maybe that's the problem? Anyone else having this issue, or know a way to reset so auto rotation works again? (I tried rotation callibration)

I had the same problem, and after doing some reading (and a lot of head scratching), I believe I've figured out the problem. The reason it seems this is happening is that you are using a USB cord to power it. If you use the power cord that came with the dock station the problem disappears.
This solution seems to be working for me, please let me know

I have the same problem with mine after updating to the official 2.2 release. And I am using the cable that came with the docking station.

This may sound silly but have you tried to check, uncheck the Display Orientation setting while you have the phone in portrait? I noticed when the back of my Captivate is resting on some surface (i.e. on my desk), the auto-rotate won't work right away. I have to do this sometimes, as if it needs to re-calibrate.
