Hi,
Thank you for that, unfortunately I have done that. Any version so far of updating to root hasn't worked after OS change to 2.2
Should I flash back to 2.1?
Just ran one click root, unleash the beast and sideloading....everything seems fine!! Best of all I got to install my Sirius app so I can stream my satellite radio!!!!! I actually returned my first Captivate because AT&T locked it so I couldn't sideload......PETER THANK YOU!!!!

I did this procedure yesterday and it worked flawlessly. I then decided to try out some custom ROM's. I didn't find one that I completely liked, so I flashed stock rom with odin3. Now, I got the update.zip on my phone, only I cannot get the three button method to bring me to recovery. I press vol up, vol dn, pwr...release power button when att inital screen comes on still holding vol up, vol dn. The phone just keeps completing the startup process. My phone is connected to F drive on my computer but I have no idea what to type in command prompt to get recovery mode this way. Can someone help me get to recovery? Please? toymudder@yahoo.com

Reason: nm, had to update baseband version to JF6 then it worked.
Ok, one little problem.. I can't connect to Wi-Fi at all. It says "obtaining address.. Unsuccessful." On EVERY network I attempt to join, this is only a problem because I am NOT on an unlimited data plan. This happened about a week after I installed this. Help? Can I remove this root? Anyone else having this problem?
Just, wondering since, right now I am running Android 2.1 on my Captivate when the new official Froyo comes out will it let me do the software update since, I rooted it the phone using this method.. or not or even going future with the future versions of Android after 2.1 since, I love this root but I only have this question. thank you so much in advance

People shouldn't be using UTB anymore. It's old, apparently abandoned... it hasn't been updated in forever and people have reported lots of issues after trying to use it on current Captivates.
ok so i was putting it in the wrong sd slot.. but now its in the right one and when i reinstall the packages it finds and opens the file but then it aborts it because it says the file is bad?! any ideas?
It was a long time ago when I did it. As mentioned above, it's very old, but I'd guess the file is still okay. And you renamed the file, as described in the instructions?
Device(s): was a samsung captivate, but now a sgs2.

HELP PLEASE!!!! I AM SUPER CONFUSED!!!!!!!!!!!
i am super paranoid to root my samsung captivate. seriously. plus, i have searched this forum, and everyone has a DIFFERENT spin and A DIFFERENT opinion.
concerns:
1. i actually like the daily briefing - i just use it for weather and calendar.
2. the power on and off sounds are fine with me.
i do not need or want to sideload anything right now, but may in the future.
3. i like my google navigation, the app with the blue star trek icon.
4. i do hate all the other at&t crap, and will be happy to remove it, or have it removed.
5. if i root this way, do i get to pick and choose what is removed, or is it 100% automatic and NOT in my control?
6. i have an sd card. i have read similar posts elsewhere you need to remove and then re-install the sd card. what is correct??
7. again, i am super paranoid. i just would like super simple steps, as i am afraid of ruining my phone. i am not an idiot; i just want a simple way to do it.... AND ON TOP OF THAT, THERE ARE SUPER LONG POSTS IN THIS FORUM, THEN TO CONFUSE ME, THE ORIGINAL POSTER SAYS, OH, DO THIS INSTEAD, THIS IS EASIER. VERY CONFUSING!!!
8. i suppose it will void my at&t handset insurance, is this correct?
