Question I wanna Root My New Captivate

I finally gave up and sold my Iphone 4. Got tired of the same ole thing pretty much. Went and got a new captivate and I want to root it and root it safely. I do not have no more cash to buy a phone outright. I already sold the IP4 so this is my one and only phone.

I've have seen several roots online. Each root had it's share of failures. I have 2.1-Update1 and I need to know which root is easiest and or safest.

I used all the references here and rooted my new Captivate last night. Removed the ATT crap and applied RyanZA's One click Lag. My device is FAST! now!!!!

Root - CapFAQ

I take no responsibility if you brick your device. Which by the way can be fixed. I suggest you read your butt off and become comfortable...I used to apply every new OS when I had my BlackBerry which I loved. Now I an SO glad to be on Android and the Captivate it great! Haven't applied and ROMs or anything though. For me the 2.1 update-1 rooted+att crap removed+lagfix=has done wonders!

I highly-recommend the method mentioned in the Captivate FAQ, which Nelimungous linked you to.

You can try downloading SGS Tools which had a gps fix in it, tho I've never tried it. There are however quite a few roms out there that sites fix the gps issue. For example, I'm on darky's rom v8 and the gps works flawlessly.

I'm not contradicting...I'm just throwing it out there that although darky's v8 may not have any GPS issues, a new ROM will not necessarily cure your GPS problems. It is the general consensus that the GPS issues are a result of the software, but it is possible that if you flash a new ROM and you might still encounter the same GPS issues.

Again: general consensus is that GPS is a software issue, not a hardware issue.

I'm not discouraging any ROM in particular, I'm just saying: don't expect a custom ROM to solve all of your problems. Just know that by installing any ROM you are only accepting certain updates and acknowledging certain issues.

Rooting alone does nothing for GPS.
