Default Error applying update.zip

Long story short, I've been haiving a bunch of problems, and someone pointed me to an update.zip file that might help me unroot my phone. When I go into recovery mode and select "install package", I get this message:

E:signature verification failde
installation aborted

Does anyone know what I may need to do in order to clear this up freaking problem?

the reason why it says that because it's reading your file as update.zip.zip

i am not sure if you tried this, but when i had that exact problem, i changed the name from update.zip to just update. after that, restart the process and it should go through after that.

I did eventually find that therad. The problem is most of those solutions call for a usb connection to a computer, and mine has died. I need to look at it more throughouly.

I will deffinately give that a try. I would be thrilled if it were that simple!

My update.zip is named correctly and still is giving me problems with authentication.

IIRC, it ended up having to do with a change they made to try and prevent "hacking". I think I had to dowload another version of a system file and put it on the phone. I don't remember all the details, but I'm pretty sure I got what I needed from a thread I posted over on the xda developers form. If I get a chance, I'll try to see if I can track it down. If you want to search for it yourself, I have the same screen name there.
