Default Phone freezes and other problems

I have had the Samsung Captivate through AT & T for 2 weeks now and I am close to returning it for an Iphone. Current problems are

For no apparent reason the phone has been completely freezing up lately and the only way to restart it is to take out the battery. The guys at Best Buy think I might have a virus from a downloaded program but they really arent sure. He said some of the apps downloaded through the market have hidden viruses in them which can screw up the phone. They want me to try a hard reset but of course I will lose any programs I have already installed. By the way I turn the phone off every night while recharging it so leaving it on too much isnt the problem

I drive a Mercury Mariner and the phone will not stay synced with it for more then 10 minutes at a time. My old cheap flip phone worked perfectly with the sync system but this phone will not. Spent an hour at Best But today and their installer geeks couldnt get it to work either. When the phone does sync it is not capable of having text messages read out loud. Again that feature worked perfectly with my flip phone

Anyone else run in to some of these issues? I love the phone when it works but I need it to work better then it is

And this is why one never turns to anyone at Best Buy for tech support or purchase advice. They are utterly, completely, and terminally clueless and will lie straight-faced to you versus admit they don't know.
