Default HELP! Traveling to mexico and wanting to avoid any roaming charges

Hello!

I am going to Mazatlan in Mexico tomorrow for 7 days to an all inclusive resort. I just got my Captivate and have yet to figure out all the functions etc. I am wanting to receive NO charges especially the womping roaming charges people often get while traveling with their cellphone on.

Normally I wouldn't bring my cell with me but I want to take pictures for my phone to show my friends and possibly play some games.

Please, someone explain to me step by step how to completely safeguard myself from being charged while traveling.

Thanks in advance!

Menu -> Settings -> Wireless and network -> Mobile networks. Uncheck "Data roaming".

For the paranoid, you can use an app like APNdroid to break and restore your APN settings, for extra piece of mind.

I imagine you can keep it on flight mode the entire time. But really-you can control the data usage. I was overseas for 2 weeks and paid ahead for 20mb of international data & was able to keep it close. It was useful for email, agps, etc

Yes "Flight Mode" would also work as long as you don't care about being able to make/receive calls.

I didn't want to use Flight Mode when I was in Canada because I still wanted the option to use it as a phone in a pinch. As long as I didn't answer an incoming call, I wasn't going to get charged for it.
