Default 2.1 Upgrading Help

I just bought a Samsung Captivate from eBay. It currently has 2.1 on it. I read that it can be upgraded to 2.2. However, I don't see any one way to do it. Everything seems very unofficial. (on par with jailbreaking an iPhone) That being said, I was wondering if there's some definitive way to upgrade that I'm not finding though a Google search. Much help is appreciated. Thanks.
BTW, I'm running Mac OSX snow leopard if that is any relevance.

If you wanted the official update to 2.2, then you can use Kies mini to get the update. Only problem is that it might not be compatible with Mac OS, might have to use a friends computer to perform the update.
