Angry Apps gone, Media scanner doesn't finish

My Captivate (a little over 1 year old, rooted stock 2.2) is going nuts! When I open the app drawer, nothing that is installed on the SD card is there. Also, I can't access any of my pics because the gallery won't open. After getting to 100% media scanned on sd card, it just sits there, the icon doesn't go away. If I try to open an app through circle launcher, it tells me that "the app is currently not available..."! If I try to open My Files, it just hangs on a black screen. Laputa still opens books that are saved to my external 8GB sd. Has my internal 16GB sd bit the dust? Or is this software related?

Any insight would be appreciated!

Hmm, well I opened Android Sync Manager to see if that program was working so I could try and access the internal card's info on my computer and all of the sudden, the Media Scanner icon went away all my apps, media, etc was back! Breathing a sigh of relief now, however, was this just a glitch or a sign of impending doom?

Thanks all.

That's odd, the exact same thing happened to me a few days ago. I wound up popping the battery, removing the sd card, and letting the phone sit for a few minutes. When I rebooted, I still, initially, did not have all of my apps, but eventually they returned. (Took about 5 minutes or so.) What was strange was that the files on my card showed if I used file explorer, so I knew that the data was still there. So far, it hasn't happened again, but I am wondering what went wrong.

Another oddity I've noticed today is my phone refuses to ring with the selected ringtone. Very weird! Thanks for the reply PhoneMatt. Good luck to both of us!
