Blush Notifications Vibrations Too Intense

Whenever my phone vibrates to notify me of something (ex: text messages, emails, my turn on Word with Friends...) it's SUPER intense. It's been like this since before the Gingerbread update, so that's not it...and I'm not talking about haptic feedback either (the vibration for when you "push" buttons on the touchscreen).

Someone asked this in another forum post but no one ever gave a resolution. Is it even possible to customize how strong or gently the phone vibrates for notifications? It's kind of embarrassing when my office is quiet and then my phone vibrates like a game show buzzer...

Thanks in advance for your help!
