Since I have yet to receive my Cliq.... if anyone else has and confirm that the 1 click root exploit works because it's still running 1.5 and can confirm it please let me know...
The Sprint HTC hero has been rooted, and all other root methods, like the CLIQ have failed. but this should work on the CLIQ/DROID....
Finally there may be root access for the CLIQ! Here is a quick How To for everyone.
Thanks Geoff!
Thanks XDA-Developers (as always!)!
Thanks JManley69 for brining the procedure from Sprint Community!
Thanks Sprint Community! I. Before You Begin
You need to be able to access the phone via ADB.
Follow this procedure to get ADB setup on your CLIQ How To Setup ADB/ Install USB Drivers II. Root the CLIQ
1. Download the following file and then unzip it. AsRoot2
2. Take the unzipped file and save it into the Tools folder of your AndroidSDK.
3. Plug your phone in via USB and do NOT mount the SD card.
4. Open the Command Prompt and type the following (hitting enter at the end of every line):
cd\
cd AndroidSDK\Tools\
adb devices
And make sure your phones’s serial number pops up (if not redo section I).
5. Then type:
adb push asroot2 /data/local/
adb shell chmod 0755 /data/local/asroot2
adb shell
/data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh
6. Then type:
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cd /system/bin
cat sh > su
chmod 4775 su
All Done! You SHOULD now have root access! Try to download a root program from the Market and see if it works
I HAVE NOT TRIED THIS as I do not have my CLIQ with me but it worked on my friends Sprint Hero....
i saw that on the tmobile forums and wanted to know if this is true?
idk what or how to root is
and def dont wanna mess up my phone already but for you android guru's out there itd be appreciated to lemme know
hey drewbdope
when you disengaged your blur was there a big performance boost? like noticeable or just a little faster and not as laggy? or none at all
just curious
thanks!

Well, I have it so that I'm using the blur service itself to back up my contacts, etc. But I signed off of the accounts and trashed the widgets and it freed up almost 10MB. It makes the phone run faster through screens and yeah not as laggy. And the boost? The boost comes in battery life! Without those widgets constantly pulling info my battery lasts much longer. One day I will run it to the ground and time it so I can give you a number.
This exploit type is patched in the CLIQ's kernel, not gonna work. Still trying to find another work around but so far everything has come up empty. There is a way, somewhere, we just have to stumble upon it. Also MOTO is pretty big on not giving us any bones so it's just going to take some time, no security is perfect.
The only TIP I would give, is don't accept any updates. Everyone is trying to bust it open from where it's at now.
What I don't get it is Motorola provided the source for the Cliq on their open development site but no information on what to do after that!
Someone mentioned seeing some signing keys in the source code - anyone else checked that out?

This is pretty good stuff. Now we just need some dev to jump all over this! Tempted to buy Cyanogen a Cliq lol
no doubt . There is someone in XDA that said they are making a custom ROM for cliq from the source...but would still need root to apply it So..once root is found we'll have at least one option

that's good to hear somebody is gonna do something for the cliq. if the signature is in the source code, then whoever is developing could just create a custom rom that already has root and sign with the moto sig and we would be golden!
Hi, i've hit up numerous unlocking companies (one of which i frequent before)
they said t-mobile/other servers are down and unable to unlock my phone for 2-3 weeks.. anybody know whats going on? I just bought this phone today (sold my unlocked g1, got this, now i have no working phone on my att sim, fml)
does anyone know a loophole around this? Anyone else can unlock? Can motorola themselves unlock? Just looking for answers, thank you! And oh yeah, this is my first post.. hehe ^_^ android forever!
Overview:
Had unlocked g1
I am on AT&T
Sold g1, bought tmobile cliq.
went home to buy cliq code
one seller says t-mobile database "down"
other says it takes two weeks (normally 30 minutes)

does anyone know what's the deal?
obviously my simple statement was difficult for you to understand. the cell phone provider is who supplies the codes to whatever company you may have purchased them from. if t-mobile's database is down and multiple unlocking companies are telling you this, then you already know the answer. you have to wait!
Call cust serv(assuming u have tmobile) and requst the code they will contact moto and get your code for you only the manu. has the unlock code, but anyway they will email you the key, if they ask you are planning to travel and want. To use your phone. Free
Don't pay to unlock phones, its almost always doable for free.

Hi, i've hit up numerous unlocking companies (one of which i frequent before)
which companies have you contacted it?
and i guess which ones have worked for you before?
i want to unlock mine also for travel, but i dont want to deal with customer service. heard usually you gotta wait the 30 day period before they give you the code.

alot of companies are legit. i ended up asking my friend who has tmo to get me the unlock code and the system actually wasn't down--i got it in two days.
I read it up and actually the waiting period etc etc (motorola database where they send requests for unlock codes) is backed up or some sort.. 2 weeks period for resellers..
ebay, etc.. or search.. price around because the cost varies from company to company and phone to phone.

i see. i might check a website then.
i called tmo, and they said you gotta be in contract for at least 90 days. the cliq hasn't even been out for that long.
would it be possible for you to send me the code you got? I've been waiting for almost a week on t-mobile and i haven't received anything. i just want to try the unlock code you got if its possible.
i have been waiting since last tuesday for the code and it still hasnt come. t-mobile and motorola are both giving me the run around. if anyone has unlocked it can you post the subsidy code you got here so we can try it?
alright. how did you get your code and how long did it take? my girlfriend called t-mobile and requested it last tuesday night and ever since i have called both t-mobile and motorola and both have been telling me the other has it and its really frustrating
ok...so i'm new to this whole "unlocking" thing. WHY do we WANT to unlock our Cliq's? What's the benefit? and if I WANT my code, i just call up t-mobile for it and they will SEND it to me OR give it to me over the phone? Also, Can't we just e-mail motorola for the code as well?? Help!!! PLEASE educate me on this.

Two main reasons to unlock:
1. You are traveling overseas and want to use a local (much cheaper) sim card for calls
2. You are getting ready to sell your phone, unlocking allows it to be used on any GSM carrier worldwide... thus enhancing the value (and price) of your phone.
I also agree with you, when I've needed an unlock in years past, TMO has always been pretty good (and quick) about it. I do have to say though that when I was selling my previous MT3G, TMO took 5 days with nothing so I called in. They claimed it had been sent via email (never arrived though) so they did give it to me right then during the call, no sweat!
It's not that the "servers are down" it's that T-Mobile removed the unlock codes for the CLIQ from the Motorola databases most unlockers use for "instant" unlocking.
I had success with GSMLiberty.com, but you have to pay $24.99 for the T-Mobile unlock on their site (not the Morotola unlock). On my wife's CLIQ we had a code back in three hours after ordering. This was last week after a half dozen other unlocking sites and eBay unlockers all told me 1 to 2 weeks.
I submitted an order with GSMLiberty.com for a code for my CLIQ which arrived Friday but have not heard a response back yet. Most likely it's because not only is it the weekend but a holiday weekend.

You don't want to do that. Each unlock code is unique by the IMEI of every individual phone. Smarten up - all you'll end up doing is permanently locking your phone for good.
What's the rush anyway? Going overseas soon, selling your phone... what???

I would report it to ebay and prove to them that it is indeed LOCKED. You'll either get full refund or a partial refund so you can unlock your phone without EXTRA expenses. Don't be a fool and let things like that go.
For any ideas or information regarding rooting the cliq/dext refer to www.cliq-development.com, ask your questions on our forum and we will be sure to help you.

the rush is that i've been without a phone for almost 2 weeks now because the unlocking system t-mobile has that should work in 24 hours hasn't worked at all for me. What makes it such a big deal to you anyway what my need for it is? and dont act like an expert dude, you have 7 posts chill out.
On another note, Navalynt, you said you unlocked your phone from GSMliberty? what exactly did you request from them and how well did it work? I asking because I don't want to drop $25 on a service that won't work. If anyone else had success unlocking their phone can you please tell me what you did? because I have twice requested an unlock code from T-mobile and all I have got from them and Motorola is a he said she said run around and its really frustrating.

Ah... you want to use the Cliq on a different carrier than TMO? That makes total sense, no reason not to share that information.
It also may explain why TMO has not provided the unlock code if you are not a current customer...
If you get an unlock code from ebay it will still work. I got mine off it and my phone was successfully unlocked. I can make calls and everything but theres just the little data thing that I can't get to work, but other than that it's successful unlocked.
ps. I got mine unlocked like last week so I don't think there's any servers down.

my girlfriend who has a t-mobile account is the one requesting the code, so they are supposed to supply it. they are just dragging their feet so i am trying to find another way even if it isnt free.
and gulpreet, how long did it take you to get the code and from who exactly did you buy from? i dont want to buy it and then end up waiting even longer. and i dont have a data plan so the data not working for me is actually a plus.

Took about a day and a half. Ask the seller first if he will be kind enough to email it to you, else they mail you it through usps or something. I asked him that and he didn't mind. And the data not working is just because I think the 3G signals that tmobile has are different from the ones that other companies use. I'm still trying to get my data to work, trying different APN's. Anyways if you have any other questions feel free to pm me.
