im pretty sure, I personally havent tried it but i saw no mention of software issues.

U can use superoneclick. Really easy and stable so far

I confirm it works with Motorola Cliq 2.1
I used superoneclick 1.7, because both 1.8 programs kept giving me this error

chmod psneuter...

OK

Running psneuter...
ROOTED

Pushing busybox...
1069 KB/s (1062992 bytes in 0.971s)

OK

chmod busybox...

OK

Getting mount path...
rootfs / rootfs ro 0 0
FAILED
