Default why would i want to root?

ok, so...it seems to me that all of the extra abilities that you get out of the cliq when you root it, are either mainly for if you're travelling, or if you don't like the way the OS looks. i don't need to tether to my laptop, as my laptop never goes anywhere there isn't wifi. i'm not planning a trip to another country for YEARS, so there's no reason to unlock...so i guess my question is
why would I want to root my cliq? can i overclock it if I root it?

i understand the dangers that go into rooting and flashing devices, i do PSPs and Wiis for fun, but i've never done any phones except the iphone(cause they're way too easy)

you can overclock your device but why... if not for all the other features why choose one that can cause your device to die due to over heating or overhaul on your battery...
if you dont take your laptop unless there is wifi in the area why not root to get tether ability to get internet where ever you go...

the main reason for rooting for me is tethering, removing useless app that came stock on the phone and themeing also audio hack to make the ringer louder...

if u want to overclock i think there is an app call setcpu that does the trick...

yes check out modmymoto.com it is sooo easy to root the cliq verse the g1 or mt3g or htc versions... motorola phones use a simple program called RSD lite...

i have one of those netbook that i take in the car and i listen to international radio by tethering my g1 or cliq to it... or sometimes u just want a full web page and view so on...

I have had my Cliq for just over a week, and I was quite surprised at the relative lack of quality apps for Android. I have an iPod touch and occasionally download apps for that, and expected that the Android Market would have things of similar quality. Undoubtedlty it is because the Android phone is a favorite of hobbyists who prefer to DIY.

Paying for apps will only encourage the creation of more and better software for the platform.

I think you miss the point of linux have you ever ran a linux OS like UBUNTU or RED HAT or similar you dont pay for nothing and the software is 100 time and 100% better that of windows or mac...
Android is no different it run a kernel from UBUNTU it is a free OS that is why so many companies are jumping onto it first HTC then MOTOROLA then SAMSUNG and future ppl are LG NOKIA and many others. (they dont want to pay for an os when they can get if free and make a profit lol)

now about you not seeing all the app on the market is because your device is filtering out apps that are designed for different framework like 1.5 current cliq there is also 1.6 and 2.0 and 2.1 os codes that will show more and more apps
