Default Cliq XT Recovery Mode... help

Can anyone help me get my Cliq XT into recovery mode...?

I get to the point where I select recovery mode and it sees that I've selected recovery mode. Then goes to a screen that has an exclamation point on it and seems to be waiting for another step.

Can anyone help..? Thanx

What exactly are you trying to do in Recovery MODE? The Stock Recovery will only let you restore to factory default.

If you are trying to do something else such as installing a ROM, Backup, ETC. then you need a custom recovery after you get ROOT.

I have root (thank you for the one click) and I'm trying to step up to 2.1
I'm following the instructions you posted...
I've gotten to the point where I downloaded j_rodd recovery.img
I've renamed it recovery.img, put it on my sd card and I'm trying to take the next step.
I've also put the Zipped ROM on my sd card. So I think I'm close....

My understanding is that I need to boot into recovery mode to take the next step. I'm new to this.... So maybe I don't understand. Please advise

Default I got it.........thnx

After a little searching, I found out how. Thanx

Once you hit volume down it takes a few seconds then goes to the exclamation point screen.
I just tapped on the lower right corner of the screen and it worked.

Is it ok to install a custom ROM like Cyanogen Mod through the motorola quench (rooted) stock recovery? Ive done this before with my motorola cliq but it wasnt as much of a pain as with the quench...I cant seeem to be able to install ROM manager and that was the easiest way that ive done it before...but my main question is that if i have the zipped file of CM on my sd card, can i install the update with the regular stock recovery and not a custom recovery image?? And will it do anything to ruin my phone if i do so??
