How do you guys keep track of passwords? I have a password-protected text file that I have been using for years to store passwords (it is 3 pages long now). I keep it synced between my phone and a USB flash drive.
I’ve been thinking of going to some alternative which uses the cloud. It would be more convenient for me. However, I am a little skittish about putting my passwords “out there”. Is my caution reasonable, or is cloud storage of sensitive info secure enough not to worry about? Opinions?
Then, just come up with a word to describe each account (e.g., "googlemail") and your password would be the letters/numbers that correspond on the code card.
This way, even if someone finds the code card, they have no idea what it is or what it's for. Also, all you need to remember is the "word" you assigned to each account instead of a complex password.
I do shapes with keyboard keys, as opposed to words. In that way the passwords are truly random and easy to remember without you actually knowing what the specific key combinations are. Its virtually impossible for someone to guess you password if you don't really know what it is.

I use the KeePass v2.x, which does require .Net 2.x (seeing as I am a Windows user, not a problem for me), as opposed to the KeePass 1.x which does not require .Net and thus is usable via Wine in *nix as well.
V2.x also has built in synchronization feature, so I just connect my phone, point the sync feature to the file on the ophone, and it syncs file on computer with file on phone. Done!

yeah i cant remember what it was but I do remember thinking they handled the situation well. And I'm pretty skeptical/judgmental about that stuff :P So it was unusual to think a company was doing the right thing.
Yea, it was like email database that was possibly compromised... i remember thinking no big deal but honestly i have no recollection of what actually happened, lol
Thanks for your replies everyone. I will give KeePass Password Safe a look. I also like the idea of making passwords shapes, instead of words. I'm thinking I might employ that also.
Do a lot of reading up on KeePass, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask - I've been using it for 5-6 years or so, IIRC, and before that I had bought a license for MoonSoftware's Password Agent, so I'm familiar with that software as well, although, IMO, PA is nowhere near as robust as KeePass has gotten.
Also, KP offers a portable version that runs straight off of UFDs....
