Sad Microsoft hates non ms os based hardware.

Very strange but twice now My laptop has killed a memory card after a firmware update.
This can't be a coincidence the 2 separate device updates resulted on the cards being killed by win7!

first time was a 2 day old SDHC card, this time a 12 months old SDHC micro.

Sorry if this sounds like a rant but I just need to vent !

I have never heard of such an issue before and have used many a memory card with many a windows computer. Perhaps the issue is hardware in your laptop and not actually simply Win 7?

Where were the cards? In a reader? Windows managed to mangle cameras and scanners with XP update. I suppose they could hose a card reader.

It's possible, its a compaq laptop with an internal reader.
It's funny that it only has happened following a firmware update and only after I installed Win 7!

I have not heard of this before, thought it was hardware updates/drivers that can cause damage along the lines of this?

Were you updating the firmware of the card reader itself? If so, then yeah, I'd expect it to hose any cards in there. You're not supposed to do that.

If it was firmware of other things, well, something ain't right then. Unless it was firmware of the parent controller that the card reader is attached to...which is pretty much the same thing as I alluded to before.
