Tongue Cannot get Dell Laptop running XP Pro to recognize Android Connection

I have an older Dell Inspiron 6000 running XP Pro. When I connect my HTC EVO Shift, it shows on the phone display that it is connected, but I cannot see the device as a external drive. I really want to dump my I-Tunes library to my phone but cannot. Any ideas? I have no issues with connecting my two thumb drives to the laptop.

Are you enabling USB storage from your phone's menu? The phone will automatically tell you it is connected to the computer, but you must manually set it to enable USB storage each time you connect it.
