Depends on what you want to use it for. I wouldnt expect the Prime to be good for productivity or any serious work stuff.

But Android tablets are awesome for watching movies, email on the couch, etc.

^ what he said. I personally don't see tablets replacing an actual computer (desktop or laptop) for quite some time. As ALP stated, it will all depend on your usage.

Well Laptops will be far better investment than Tablet in that case . TF prime will lock you to one Operating system (possibly 2-3 if you are interested in Ubuntu-arm) and android apps .Whereas Laptop has Plethora of OS,tools and help .For research and stuff ,Laptop will be more efficient .

Yeah I agree with karandr -- as a student, you'll want a laptop. Especially for the word processing. There really are no mobile office apps that compare to the desktop versions. There is also that chance that a professor has some weird java applet to submit tests.

Research (just looking up webpages etc) could be doable on a tablet though.

As soon as my course is over in a month I'm selling my laptop and buying a tablet.

I surf, chat on IRC and forums, read, game lightly. LibreOffice for Android is rumored so all docs, etc. can be created and edited correctly. I don't need a device to do much more than that.

Depends on your needs though

Aye -- I am VERY excited to see what the LibreOffice guys can do on Android but I'm guessing it's at least a year or two before it would be truly usable.

The plans of Libre Office android is late 2012 or early 2013 which is still far away . Who know how much android evolves by then ,It will be a sound investment as far as proper computing device in 2012 .(I will spend my time playing fruit ninja on a tablet instead of studying as of today )
