Interesting.... so what's the real-world net effect of this?

that we don't have to worry about HDCP enabled devices anymore? Meaning that piracy of videos can be bypassed - once again.

Personally, I always smile a bit when a copy protection method is broken. Now, would I be right to assume that they could *not* fix this issue - as I'm guessing it would ruin hdmi devices..??

Hell I'm still mad about the cramovision or whatever... that scrambled a dvd if you plugged in a vhs! If I wanna put my dvd on to a lousy vhs let me. Such ancient equipment needs use!

And I'm not too sure how this is used by law enforcement / military like the article says, but one comment made the point that it isn't really true and is just a way for the miaa to sink it's teeth into another piece of hardware. And I'm sure you can all extrapolate my view of the miaa.

No need for extrapolation - as I'm sure it aligns itself very nicely with my own lol

Wait, you mean that you too have a 170+ IQ and are hopelessly afraid of poodles?

(j/k. About the poodles thing, that is )

O.O Well, I've never taken an IQ test, so I can only assume that ... yes, yes I do.

Poodles are kind of strange aren't they? Weird fur on those things.

I'm curious to see what will actually come from HDCP being cracked. I especially like how intel said they couldn't do it without spending a lot of cash, and they did it for what $200 to $300. Nice!

The hardware pirate... so classic. I like it. Like hooking recordable cassette deck next to a radio Old school. And the RIAA thought that radio and cassette was going to kill their precious industry.

Well the question I guess is, will the content industry and hardware makers bother paying intel for the tech if it doesn't work?

I mean most movies can be torrented in 1080i or w/e already -- but I could see content providers not wanting to pull the DRM just because it would still deter casual pirates (I'd think).

I guess the only option would be for Intel to try and fade out the usage of the master key that got leaked. Then "turn off the lights" on any old HDCP in 5-10 years....

Lmfao. If its digital, it will be cracked.

It's like I tell my clients when they ask me how to be secure - I tell them "disconnect any USB ports and floppy drives you have on your computer, disconnect it from the Internet and use it as a full standalone machine - that is really the only way to guarantee that you're safe."

Or, to parody a movie quotation: "Build it, and they will crack it."

Seriously. The funniest had to be the PS3 marketing exec who accidentally tweeted the master key for that DRM lol.

^ Lol that happened?!!! Awesome. I love that. Made my day!

Yeah, people really don't understand digital security too well. 100% security is 100% lies.
