Smile [HDD] Power problem

Earlier some time ago I mentioned one of my HDDs looked to be corrupted but I couldn't find any corruption with HDD tools .
I have Windows 7 installed
It turns out when I change the "Turn off Hard disk after" (Power Plan) settings from 20 minutes to Never , the Hard disk gets uninstalled .
I have to rescan using "Scan for Hardware changes" in Device manager to detect the HDD .
Any thoughts on why this is happening ?

You looked for corruption - did you check SMART status?

OK, just making sure lol.

Hmmm, if you disable auto power down, it loses...

holy smokes - can you touch the HD while the computer is running? If so, see if it is running hot....

Now that you mention it .
Yes I can touch it .
It is running hot (not scalding hot ,more like warm fuzzy )
But my other two drives are running more warmer or hotter .
Also I have HDD fans individually plus I have checked the ventilation and the case is clean

That's good advice, although you'd expect the long self-test to trigger any overheating problems it might have (and a failed drive would be reported in the SMART info).

Is this in a RAID set? I've read about cases where drives not rated for RAID operation will be marked inoperative by the O/S if they don't respond to a drive request within some small number of milliseconds, as a true RAID drive must. (I don't think this is your problem, but I'm having trouble thinking of any other possibility.)

Nope .
It's a solo 250GB SATA .
It just happened randomly after months .(I had a thread before which was similar )
I had dumped zeros on the drive with dd command and Formatted it .
It solved the problem,so I thought .
Repeating such process is a pain .
I guess I will have to do it .again .

You could swap cables / port assignments to make sure it's not some weird mobo chipset issue. But, um, if it keeps dying then why do you keep putting data on it?

I also did that .
I have pegged it to be a driver issue or some malware (as john galt suggested last time )
The data is not that important .It just has a lot of images and dumps which I use .
Wiping the drive I guess .

Just saw this thread today and the first thing that popped in my head when I read the first post was driver, power supply and FW in that order.
