I run the Trainz 2009 rail simulator which is much more demanding on pc resources than a video game. The thing you notice when you install an SSD as the boot drive is that loading times on the game decrease dramatically and everything runs smoother. Plus your Windows Experience Index increases to about 7 out of a possible 7.9
Have a look on Youtube for "Windows 7 boot up with SSD"

I have gotten over the initial teething problems with my build and am now able to access the great features of the MSI Big Bang Xpower II. Here is Live Update running with indicator top right showing the live CPU speed - with 6 cores it rarely rises above minimum!

The Beast near completion. Spent 2 hours installing new Corsair AX860i PSU today (my bank manager is not pleased) and tidying cables up. Just need to install another 16 GB of RAM and the RAM cooler from my old PC.
You sir , have too much money! Seriously , I thought I was going overkill with my 670 ,but a 690?!
What's worse is you're not from the US where that £800 card is $1000 , but to be fair you do have other super-parts....
If you're in need of a way to spend me , I heard that there's a guy on forums whom people give money to ... called Mehta something .....
Edit: a funny thing I read earlier was that more people with higher end cards game less than the people who use lower end and are more "hard core" . I am one of the former.

Actually it was OEM so I got it nearly £200 less than RRP. I don't think I have too much money, simply that I prioritise it differently; for instance I don't have a car. If I did get a car, a mates daughter has paid £11, 000 for a decent one. But £11, 000 would buy you a mind boggling computer. I was in a pub talking to a mate who is a hard core biker and he agreed that you should spend money on things you like. BTW the performance of the GTX 690 is STAGGERING - in Unigine Heaven on max settings it gets 84 FPS as opposed to 35 for my Radeon 7950

If any of you guys across the Pond is interested there is an EVGA GTX 690 for auction on Ebay in Florida and it has 15 hours to go. It is boxed and used but not much. EVGA GTX 690 Video Card Signature | eBay

Fair enough I guess. £200 less makes it a reasonable price . I didn't mean to be rude or anything like that :P Reading what you've written makes a lot of sense .... I don't know much about the rest of your rig, but if you have multiple monitors and actually use the graphics card - I've got nothing to say against that. ;-)
I was just wondering how much of an actual difference in performance you'd get over an i7 and , say a 670 / 680 .
At least you haven't gone OTT and gone for a quad 690 SLI with Nitrogen cooling or anything like that.
It is a jolly good card though , and you're rig is now a best of a machine Have fun with it !

My previous card, a Radeon 7950, was the equivalent of a 670 or 680 and it achieved 35 FPS in Unigine Heaven benchmark with my current cpu. This one achieved 86 FPS without the cpu overclocked and the GTX 690 automatically overclocks itself based on the workload. Temperature wise it barely breaks into a sweat.i intend to have it permanently connected to my 32 inch TV and of course the extra power will give great resolution. Also I will not have to buy another GPU for a LONG time

You can do it in easy stages to spread the cost. This guy does a series of Youtube videos First PC Build- Cooler Master HAF X Case - YouTube where he transfers the components from his old PC to a new HAF-X case, then gradually upgrades the components. Assuming you have a reasonable CPU you can get a really decent motherboard, and as you progressively upgrade you sell the old components on ebay to help towards the cost. Also you can buy good second hand components on ebay if you are careful - my Corsair H100 CPU cooler is boxed and used from ebay.I'm going to do full water cooling soon so the H100 will be sold and so it goes on.

Yeah thats the problem - upgrading is ADDICTIVE and as soon as you think "its finished" you see something and think "I need that"! My big problem is drinking with my pals Mr Stella and Mr Kronenberg, they keep talking me into buying new PC components and they say "you could order it right now on your phone".
A 560Ti is £180, and is perfect for my needs.
But a newer 570 is only £240, and will be better
BUT, a 660Ti is only a tenner more, and is better again!
BUT a 670 has a bigger number, and might last longer. i don't care, it's ONLY £40 more than that 660Ti I was looking at.... ( even though it's ore than £100 more than a 560Ti.)
aah what the hell.... if I'm gonna spend £290 on a GPU , I may as well pay an extra £20 for one with better fans...
And then I ended up with my 670.

No, I didn't.
After thinking if SLI would be worth it (this is when I thought I was getting a 570) i decided to save some money, and go for a smaller case and a cheaper motherboard.
My Asus P8Z77 V LX saved me around £3-40 and the case around £40 too. Am I glad that I did? I dunno.
But I think SLI only really makes a difference when the next model up is only 30% better and double the price. I mean, I was told SLI only makes a difference of 30%....

Thanks! Here's the home page for the fan controller Lamp Electronics There's a bewildering variety of fan controllers and the touch screen types seem to be the most popular but I think they tend to look a bit gaudy.
BTW I got a message from SpecialTech saying the Swiftech Apogee Gold waterblock was "listed by mistake" so the search goes on....
Yeah I wouldnt mind some type of LCD/touchscreen but I'm not sure I care about fan controllers. I'd almost rather something with music controls or some such.

Its an XSPC Raystorm Chrome CPU waterblock. The one I ordered (Apogee Gold) turned out to be "Out Of Stock" so this was the next best.I have loosely installed the fittings on it. Theres another version which allows for LED illumination but I have kind of OD'ed on LEDs and I am obsessive about cable management so I am looking forward to getting rid of my Corsair H100 cooler which adds 6 cables to my rig.
BTW I thought you guys might like to see this fab bit of computer animation on Youtube.
