Do you have this same panel? Its very slightly out of skew on the bottom rear corner but nothing to worry about. I'll be having a look at it later when I have more time.

I think my next build will be a case like that! The cable management seems like it would be much easier for me.. That is where my skills lack, its a mess in my case!

It is my first build:

Gigabyte GA-790FXTA-UD5
AMD 955 quad core 3.2GHz
Tuniq Tower 120
8GB RAM G.Skill DDR3-1333 2048MB X 4
Corsair HX750
XFX 4770HD
Western Digital Caviar Black 600GB
MSI DVD/Multi
Lian Li case

I assembled it late 2010. Still on the agenda:
Upgrade to Velociraptor HDs
Universal card reader
Dual Blu-Ray Drives
Upgrade to 6770

It has been completely trouble-free, a truly plug & play experience.

So most of the parts for my new rig came, still waiting on the RAM, (arrives Monday). Here's what I settled on:

CPU
- Intel 3770K

Motherboard
- EVGA Z77 FTW (got on sale!)

RAM
- G.Skill 2133MHz - 32GB

Cooling
- NZXT Kraken X60 (closed loop water)

GFX
- EVGA Nvidia GTX 670 - 4GB*

Main SSD
- Samsung 840 Pro - 512GB

Other storage:
- Samsung 830 SSD - 512GB*
- Samsung F1 HDD - 1TB*
- Samsung F1 HDD - 1TB*
- Samsung F1 HDD - 1TB*

Optical
- Some LG DVDRW drive or something*

Sound
- Creative XFi*

PSU
- Corsair HX1000w*

Case:
- Corsair Obsidian 650D

* from old 'puter

Still have to wait until Monday for the RAM but I will post some pics when done. Now we'll see if I can run games at 2650x1600 @ something higher than 40-50fps with everything turned up. I fear I might need another GTX670 and to go SLI. No fancy custom water loops or cable wrapping yet though .

Sounds really sweet, esp the SSD!
Although I built my own rig in a HAF-X case I hadn't seen the Coolermaster Stom Stryker or I might have got it.

@alostpacket - Looks good! At that res, depending on the game you may need another 670 to get to the graphics settings you want. Really depends on the game. If you need anything or have any questions (and this goes for anyone here), feel free to email me at webmaster@evga.com. Please be sure to address it to me (Rob) as there are 2 of us that view these emails.

Being that I have now picked up an SSD.. I figure that I might as well just upgrade some older pieces at the same time, so with that said - I'll likely be picking up an i7-3770K and an ASUS Sabertooth Z77 or Gigabyte Z77-UD4H board.

OK the pics! It's not so fancy but it's running like a champ. A few hiccups with the BIOS but now things are good.

Running 4.7 GHz with 35-40c idle and high 60s under load I'm thinking with a bit more voltage I may try for 5GHz The Kraken is AWESOME btw. (even though I totally bolted it to the top of my case in a way it wasn't supposed to go heh.

BTW, I love the cable management

The one without the fancy extra audio, I got the sense it was kinda useless.

Anywho the Formula is a bit more but only $30 more than the Sabertooth.

Maximus V Formula $270
ASUS Maximus V FORMULA Extended ATX Intel Motherboard - Newegg.com

Sabertooth $240
ASUS SABERTOOTH Z77 ATX Intel Motherboard - Newegg.com

That Gigabyte is pretty cheap though ($170-180?)

Anyways the Formula is almost the board I got until I saw the EVGA Z77 FTW go on sale at Amazon for $215 (normally $310), the Formula got very good reviews.

It was my poor effort at /sarcasm. Lol! Seriously though, it isn't as bad as you may think. I'm leaning towards the Gigabyte solely because it blends well with my case, plus the fact that it's a good $40-50 cheaper than the rest.

Just to keep this thread alive I have done a little mod to my GTX 690 graphics card by fitting an EK backplate to it. This is supposed to be used in conjunction with a waterblock but by using different size screws I was able to bodge it. Much better looking than the PCB.

I've contemplating doing something similar to my 580, but then I realized that I'm too lazy to OC, so the cosmetic effect wasn't enough motivation for me lol.

On a side note, build after upgrades:

CPU: Core i7-3770K
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD4H
GPU: EVGA GTX 580 SC (old)
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) @ 1600MHz (added 2 extra 4GB sticks)
SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB (old)
Ex-HDD: Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 2TB (old)
PSU: Corsair HX750 (old)
Case: Corsair 600T SE (old)
Aftermarket CPU fan: Cooler Master Hyper 212+

Future contemplation:

PSU: Corsair AX1050
GPU: 2x EVGA GTX 670 in SLI

Its a double edged sword. Now that there is no risk of touching live terminals I can touch the area of the GPU chips when the 690 is running and it puts a terrifying amount of heat out when I play Far Cry 3.

Typo there.... I meant to say I couldn't be bothered..

But the backplate cools the card down? I mean it gets rid of more heat?

Yes it has thermal pads (similar to the paste you use on your CPU) which transfer heat from the GPU to the backplate. Also since it is metal rather tha PCB it radiates heat better.

If the 670 FTW uses a 680 PCB... could I use a 680 backplate ?

Heads up : I will be uploading pics of my PC soon

I could get a Titan by selling my 690 and putting 200 to the price but theres no point. The word on the web is that the Titan only wins on multi GPU setups but for single monitors the 690 is still best and is still the most powerful graphics card in the world.

Seems to be true yes. The 690 is still a beast of a card. TITANS are very useful in multi-monitor setups and high resolution situations on games where the texture files can be very large.

Those who are posting here, make sure you post your rig on modsrigs.com. We give away a $1000 sponsorship for every 200 systems posted (randomly chosen). Plus it's a cool way to show off your system

The offer still stands as to customer service as well. Please feel free to contact me directly at webmaster@evga.com (please specify Android Forums and my name so I can personally attend to your issues).

I'm thinking it might be time to give away some more swag on Android forums. Someone email me a reminder.

Depends what you mean by "laying around" ? Like most people I had lots of junk lying around the house and its nearly all sold on ebay now. I also got my card on ebay as an OEM "buy it now" item and I knew if I hesitated it would be gone. I have my phone set to alert me of 690's for sale and one popped up on ebay for 650 a few days ago then 30 minutes later it was sold. Both the 690's and Titans will probably come down in price when the Nvidia 700 series goes on sale later this year.

If I had it readily available right now, which I don't. Got a lot of saving to do for the year, so no more upgrades for me until next year - most likely.

Just added a pair of Bitfenix Spectre Pro 200mm fans to the top of my case to improve the airflow a bit.

The one flaw with my case, i have to use nzxt fans because it was made with proprietary positioned holes for screws

but they work fine so no complaints. Been thinking about getting the second 200mm fan on top, but never have seen a need for it yet.

Looks nice on yours though haha

I've been thinking of changing the fans/ adding a top one but never really got round to it. Now I'm thinking of just getting something like a Corsair AF 120 to replace the rear Cm one on my case.

( I know the cable management is pretty messy here. So much in fact that I had to use my head and my hands to shove the side panel back on)

Specs:

i5 3750K @ stock w/ stock cooler
Asus P8Z77 V LX
Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB @ 1600Mhz
1TB WD Caviar Black
250Gb Samsung 840
Sony DVD drive
EVGA 670 FTW Signature II
XFX Pro750W Silver Semi-modular
Cm Storm Enforcer Case
MS Sidewinder X4.

Edit : And the monitor in the background is a Dell ultra sharp 23 inch

Thoughts? :P

I know, i was going to but again, I got lazy and forgot about it. Although the temps are pretty fine, I might consider something like the cm 212 hyper if it's a good price :-P or if something else is better?

I might look to get a backplate for my graphics card in the future. Not sure if I'd prefer an ek 680 one (similar to yours) or a proper evga 670 ftw one.:-D

Might be cos I have (slight) OCD? And as you can see (and in some bits you can't) I used quite a few cable ties etc too.

I think there's a whole sub-reddit for cable horror too, pretty funny stuff.

And man.... I want a 690 (or Titan).... But my 670 seems to handle skyrim at 60fps 2560x1600. (30" dell) But it struggles with The Secret World. I also don't even want to know how bad it will be at crysis 3 heh.

I definitely prefer the single card solution though. Mostly for less hassle. So I guess the 690 > the Titan unless I go SLI with the Titan? I could maybe convince myself to drop $1000 on a card but not $2000

The question is whether I would be better off just sucking it up and getting a second 670 but they seem to have gone UP in price

This is what I have and I swear it was $399 when I got it...
EVGA 04G-P4-2673-KR GeForce GTX 670 Superclocked+ w/Backplate 4GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card - Newegg.com
($440 now)
