Hello everyone I'm a bit of a noob in the area of phone Modding and need some help to take it further.

I have a Sony erricson xperia play r800i and wanted to root to put all the cool stuff like Sony bravia engine n beats audio n stuff on my phone plus sort out the problem of eternal memory n make itvrun faster. I rooted with superoneclick and it went well but I didn't know what to do then so I tried unlocking my bootloader and it says its already unlocked so I thought it was because of root , I tried unrooting wich didn't work properly a few times then it did so I tried unlocking bootloader again n said it was still unlocked . I then tried to re-root so I could see if I could install what I wanted but it wont root again .
Any ideas on what to do if I can reset my phone to root again n if my boot loader is saying it is unlocked then will I be able to install bravia engine as such if rooted?

Well how did you unroot the device is the biggest problem. Now what you need to do is get a app called root checker . Boot the phone up and check to see if you rooted . Also did your root include a recovery .. should be clockworkmod .....

I unrooted with superoneclick , just clicked unroot until it worked :/ LOL

Oh yeah I had root checker installed that's how I knew it was unrooted but don't no where to go from here

Ok you need to get to the stickies rooting there is a few steps with the doomloard rooting doesnt sound like you finished with rooting the device go to allthings root

Im not sure what you mean sorry go to allthings root .com or summut ? N finish off rooting the device as its not done properly it rooted fine with superoneclick but the unroot was a problem but it says has unrooted now apparently

Yes when you had it rooted did you see the recovery and did you make a back up with the recovery... once u made a recovery you need to have a rom to flash to your device which should be located on your sd card after you place it on it .if you have problems with superone click you can see step by step video on YouTube. Just put super one click but read doom lords rooting its easy and he put his foot in it cause it works and do the dam thang i give him all credit for that one :what:

had a look at doomlords easy rooting kit gona try that and see how it goes , cant atm tho because i dont have my cable with me haha but i will try it asap and let you no how it goes thank you

Thats cool it will work i have rooted a few items included a tablet i think sony is quick and easy if you follow the directions but doom loard is very down and give you quick easy steps and layout of how to complete the jobs of rooting but hey holla back when u try if you need help feel free to holla

yeah i found a usb so tried doomlords easy toolkit it rooted fine then just tried to install what i wanted got mobile bravia engine and just looking for ICS now can you flash and install thing with flashtool instead of clockwork mod because my phone wont install cwm and i have flashtool already , the sites that say flash it with cwm can i use flashtool instead? and cheers man really helped

This is your proof that you can now ics will be a problem cause you have down grade ..... i think the flash tool is better and quicker just you have to have the rom of choice to use flash tools . But if you root u can browse to see many things your device can do rooted ....

ahhh wicked i can use flashtool then if i have the rom or kernel or whatever . and i dont think my phone is ginger bread .
android version 2.3.4
and build number 4.0.2.a.0.42
and stock kernal
2.6.32.9-perf
so where do i get ics for my phone cos im not on gingerbread i think anyways

ohh right cool so i click on the link and it will be on there and what was you saying about it being a problem is ICS a downgrade from gingerbread ? i fort ics was the newest and has a better interface and that thanks again lmao

Look at these and try out what you like and keep what you want and what you flash to your phone from sd card keep a copy on you pc and or lap top .....

Also what is your phone make and model and which carrier do you have .....

Also when keeping roms that you like on your pc or lap top be sure to make a folder on desktop called android phone and store all your good flashable roms in it :what:

cool man cheers and what i flash to my phone keep a copy on computer of just the file? so anything about like sorting it out if it goes wrong what should i do ?

my phone isnt locked to anything i bought it offline sim free so any network and that so i dont think theres any restrictions or anything and yeah i will put them in a folder for safe keeping :P

No if you get ics and see problems with it you dont need to keep it just use the flash tool to down grade back to stock roms or a custom rom also try cm7. Or cm9 if made for your device cause it would put you to 236 and cm9 is ice cream and cm10 is the latest 4.1 or jelly bean.

that 4.1 or jelly bean sounds good will it work for my phone ? have you seen it does it look better than ICS just want to make my phone awesome man whatevers best lmao how would i do that find it on that site or wherever and flash it through flashtool ?

If the phone acts up or u hit the wrong option on the phone and wipe it clean ..just pop the battery pull the sd card and put that rom back on it flash back into business without any head ache

what connect sd card to comp and put in on there without being in the phone? and how would i get that jelly bean on there mate?

It may and may not you have to see if its a rom made for it and if not they working on it . But lets take it slow try those out and when you learn enough u can try to make your own roms...:what:

Well if you wipe your phone clean you may wipe sd card clean now you in clockworkmod with out anything to flash ... remember the sd card is clean and the phone is on and in flash mode ...the only way to put a rom on the phone is through the sd card so u can flash ..... so you power off the phone by pulling the battery and next you pull your sd card out place in the adapter and put it into the sd slot on your laptop .....

im stuck already man looked at the leaked ICS rom for xperia and the instructions arnt very clear dont no if i need a kernal before the rom and you need to put it on sd card then put fastboot code in or something do i need fastboot or something im not clear on how to install it :S

No thats why i said move slow flash a 2.34 first get the hang of the flashtool .. but no you just flash the cm9 the kernels are built in the rom its made with source code

ahhh right so download it and flash it with flashtool and i have seen how to flash on youtube tried it for a recovery thing when i was unrooted n didnt work started but didnt finish but you have it in a folder and and then open it in flashtool to flash it and then connect your phone in flash mode n it does it ?

FlashTool can only be used to flash stock ROMs .
Rooting is not needed for using flashtool .

There are two types of CWM recoveries depending upon the status of Bootloader (Sony phones by default dont have a separate recovery partition )
Via custom Kernel(unlocked BL) or via chargemon nAA mod (locked BL)

R800i is GSM device so dont flash CDMA ROM .

and you have better chance of getting reply if this thread is in Xperia play section (or XDA )

Well someone told me i could flash a rom and kernel if i had both with the flash tool . So the flash tool is only to downgrade back to stock roms .or to place just stock roms of choice back on the sony xperia ..

usually flashtool is primarily used to flash ftf files via flash mode .
ftf files are SEUS upgrade/repair dumps .

you can also use it to install kernels via fastboot mode .
But If you are rooting ,it's better to learn fastboot commands .

Custom ROMs are installed by CWM only .

He said cwm didn't work on his phone so i told him he had to reflash to get the recovery .

It is almost 90% functional recovery (Locked BLs cant use custom kernels and custom kernel ROMs like CyanogenMod)

Xperia phones dont have recovery partition
so the factory reset is done by SEUS or flashtool .

i have an unlocked bootloader but i flashed a stock rom with flashtool i think build number now ends in .62 but now i cant root and cwm wont install on my phone so i dont no how to install custom kernels or roms really cos you need cwm and not sure bowt fastbooting and stuff its not really clear on xda ive read loads but dont really get a simple way to do it but i cant root again now tried flashtool superoneclick and doomlords but they wont root now lol

yeah but i dont want to install a stock rom unless i can install doomlords advanced stock rom lol i dont no how to install kernel or rom with the methods described like in fastboot folders and stuff theres no simple way lol

Check to see if the bl are unlocked and try to install the recovery you may need the app cause it may be hard to unlock try both methods

i have unlocked bootloader ive tried a few times n it says its already unlocked i have read a tutorial for using flashtool for kernals and stock things understand more now if i install a kernal with cwm or recovery in it then i should be able to install the corisponding roms? because cwm wont manually install but i think its included in some kernels ?

It might not be you it may be the phone also cause you brought the device on line they may have had something already on it ... and as i said that play 800i . I always had a xperia 10 no game console like that ...if u think about it the 800i already has a rom and emulators .

Maybe flash the stock rom back to the phone and try and restart maybe you missed something the first time you rooted

.62 is Patched system .It cant be rooted w/o custom kernel
.42 and .58 are can be easily manipulated using doomlord's rooting method (I prefer .58 but some prefer .42)

As I said ,for unlocked Bootloaders custom kernels come with CWM in kernel itself ..
For Locked BL's you use X-parts Recovery ..

Fastboot is not meant to be easy because it can screw your device hard ..

You have to start with flashing a custom kernel .

if you are going to start to modify device ,start with CyanogenMod
