Question Please Help : Question about flashing Froyo 2.2.2 on Continuum

Hello :

I am trying to flash my Continuum with Froyo 2.2.2, and I am confused about the steps involved. Can someone please clarify?

1. Do I need to formally "root" the phone using SuperOneClick v2.1.1 before I flash ClockworkMod recovery?

2. Will just flashing CWM also take care of rooting, or do I need to formally root first?

Thank you for taking a moment to answer these questions. I am extremely grateful.

i am not familiar with that phone and its rooting process. generally....

you have to root the phone to use any custom ROM...
you have to root the phone to be able to change anything beyond the user's interface.

1. yes. you have to formally root the phone first.

2. I have not heard of CWM ... rooting phones. but I dont use or like CWM.

3. you need to follow the instructions that are laid out for you on rooting your phone. DO NOT MAKE ANY ASSUMPTIONS OF YOUR OWN!!!!!... any deviation may result in a very bad day for you!!! unless you are an experienced programmer.. but if you are, you would not ask these questions.

good luck

You should really ask over in the Samsung Continuum - All Things Root section as the users there will be able to offer the most accurate advice.

1. With this phone, and most Samsung phones, NO. you do not need to root to flash cwm. You simply flash a TAR file in ODIN.

2. No, flashing CWM does NOT root your phone. It's totally separate.

If you want to get on a prerooted deodexed debloated rom, follow this guide that I made.

[GUIDE] Rooting your phone via a ROM

That will take you through all of the steps, and put you on the ROM that I am on, currently.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask here, or PM me.

I would also advise reading through this forum, and any others you can find, to learn as much as you can BEFORE doing this. Knowledge is your best friend.
