FLASHING STOCK RECOVERY VIA FASTBOOT STEPS ARE BELOW THE STEPS FOR FLASHING STOCK ROM
ATTENTION TO THOSE HAVING ISSUES: After flashing back to v6 if you can't receive OTA updates please download and flash stock recovery from here: Stock Recovery(Ally) Then do a hard reset (Vol-Down+Home+End). Sign in with google, then do *#*#CHECKIN#*#*
Hello everyone, just thought i would post this how-to thread since my post in the Ally V9 SW Update is buried.
Flash Stock LG Rom.
Disclaimer: I put my phone on the line to try this and it worked fine for me doing the steps i detailed below.
It is possible to brick your phone doing this so be careful. I am not responsible if you end up with a ~$500 paper weight.
You have been warned.
If you are still with me, here are the steps:
MUST HAVE LG MOBILE UPDATER INSTALLED AND USB DEBUGGING ENABLED!
To enable USB Debugging: Settings>Applications>Enable USB Debugging
UPDATE: If you are having issues please download these drivers: LGAndroidDriver, install and then follow the instructions.
Update 9/08/10: It has recently come to my attention that if you have used roms and custom recovery and you try to restore to stock you get stuck at the A N D R O I D screen.
The Fix: Boot into recovery and wipe data+cache and dalvik cache then restore to stock again.
Update 11/04/10: User Mael has recently pointed out to me that he is using windows 7 ultimate (i'm running home premium) and he was having a problem with the files he downloaded being blocked my win7's security settings. Right click on the cab file and if it displays it is blocked because it came from another PC, unblock it. do this for the vs740 folder as well. make sure sub folders and files are included. Thanks to Mael for this solution.
Step 1: If you haven't done so already download VS740.zip
and save to the root of your C:\ drive.
Step 2: Open the zip file, and drag the folder to the root of your C:\ drive
Step 3: Open this folder that you have just downloaded.
Step 4: Rename the cab file to VS740ZV6_01.cab (If you do not see the .cab extension DO NOT add it. Also You may not have to rename it if you downloaded it as the same name.)
Step 5: Extract the zip file's contents to this folder and connect USB cable to phone.
Step 6: Run KP500-Utils-En.exe in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP2 and as an Administrator.
(Only if you are not running windows xp)
Step 7: Choose option J.
Step 8: Type VS740 when it prompts for phone model number. Press Enter.
Step 9: Type VS740ZV6_01.cab when asked for the cab file. Press Enter.
(You do not have to tell it what directory the cab file is in)
Step 10: Type VS740ZV6_01 when prompted for the version. Press Enter.
Step 11: It should now tell you it is loading and the familiar lg manual updater screen will appear with a log window below
and start reading information from your phone and then it will flash it.
If the firewall says its trying to access the web allow it.
Your phone will switch to a screen that displays the LG and Verizon Wireless logo and say: DOWNLOADING! DO NOT UNPLUG!
It will flash the update to your phone and takes around 20 minutes to complete.
Once complete it will boot up and show the word android on the screen.
It looked like it hung at that screen but it didn't it just took a while. Around 10 minutes.
Once this is complete you may unplug your phone from USB.
UPDATE!: After you finish flashing stock rom, Power off and press and hold Vol Down+Home+End and when it loads back up open the dialer and dial *#*#CHECKIN#*#* to force your phone into downloading the v8 update. and then VZB Update
Congratulations! If successful you now have the stock LG Rom. Enjoy!

It is saying that my phone is not connected. The log says normal connection, then emergency connection, then nothing. My phone keeps flashing the android screen, seeming to restart. I could get a shell up, but I can't get root.
Hey I downloaded everything and followed all the directions but after i type in the version it goes to the lg update thing then at 30 percent it says my phone is not connected but it is connected... PLEASE HELP?????
download stock recovery here: http://goo.gl/wd5l
open zip file and place in your sdk tools directory [eg: C:\android\sdk\tools]
boot phone as normal and open a command prompt with phone connected and usb debugging on
in the command prompt type:
Code:
adb reboot-bootloader.
(This should boot you to a blue screen on your phone entitled fastboot)
flash recovery stock-recovery.img
(this flashes the recovery image)
reboot
exit
if you dont understand those directions or cant get it working, PM me
Hey I downloaded everything and followed all the directions but after i type in the version it goes to the lg update thing then at 30 percent it says my phone is not connected but it is connected... PLEASE HELP?????
ok, so the .cab file downloads a 3 separate files and the one that is named vs740 is a .dll file. and i am running windows 7. i tried to run that .exe file you stated but no go. what is it????
ok, so i got past that, but now it is saying it cannot complete the request and i have to delete some thing i think, it says to delete m_pLGCyonUpdate
you arent supposed o extract the cab file put it in a folder on your C:\ drive labeled VS740. extract the lg-utils zip to that folder make sure the cab file is in there as well. and run the kp500-utils-en.exe in compatibility mode for windows xp sp2 and as admin then try the rest of the instructions
this is the last error it gives me, as i stated before, i downloaded the 107mb .cab file, but it is not a .cab file, it is a .dll file. do i rename it as a .cab file?????
the 107mb should be the cab file. if it has a different extension change it to .cab and inside that file it should have a dll file a wdh file and a wdb file. and it looks like you may not have lg mobile updater installed so you need to install that as well
open your c:\vs740 folder and make sure you can see the file extension like .zip or cab or exe and press print screen open Paint press ctrl+v and then save that file and upload here as a screen shot so i can see what your folder looks like
Alright, I went through all of these steps without bricking my phone (but it's pretty close). It flashed v6 to my phone just fine, and all was well until it hit the "Android" screen when it started to reboot. Since it's not stuck on LG, I'm not totally panicking, but it's been showing me "Android" for nearly 45 minutes now. I have disconnected it from the USB cable, removed the battery, attempted a hard reset, and it only boots up normally, then once again gets stuck on the "Android" screen.
In order to do a hard reset, I used the button combinations vol down+send+end and vol down+send+home+end after reading through a thread another user posted on here.
I don't know if disconnecting the USB cable made it worse, or if I have been using the wrong button combinations (or somehow not holding the buttons down correctly) but up until the android screen it was running fine. I gave it half an hour before I disconnected the USB.
Any suggestions?
EDIT: Never mind, booted into recovery, wiped data, and rebooted again. I'm setting it up again. I'll edit again if I have any other problems.

Good. Glad to here its all fixed. I updated the instructions with the new info. thanks!
Total noob here. I have flashed to V9 per your instructions in an attempt to repair a broken market due to uninstalling the wrong apps. I now have no market app and am not sure how to proceed. Should I attempt to install a market.apk and if so where should i get it and is there anything else that needs to be installed? Should I try to flash back to V6 and then OTA update to V8? I can get root with UniversalAndroot and have Titanium Backup to reinstall user apps but don't know what to do about market? Any ideas?
Do you have a custom recovery installed? if no then just follow the instructions on how to reflash to v6. once flashed to v6 post back here
I do not have a custom recovery installed. just the stock rom. I power cycled and got home and menu button functions back but still no market. will try back to V6 and let u know
Thats because they released the VZB update. So you may just have to wait to update until it gets pushed to your phone. Everyone should have it pushed to their phone by friday. Are you using a custom recovery?
You might still have clockwork installed. On power up, try pressing and holding either Vol Up+Home+End/Power and letting go on lg screen and if that doesnt do anything try turning off and pressing and holding Send+Menu+End and letting go on lg screen. Let me know how that goes. if nothing i will be home around 3pm my time (Central) and its 11:52 now. and i can help more via teamviewer
Hi death2all110... I'm new here but have been lurking for a while now. I have a question about my ally that I hope you can help me with...
I was an idiot and deleted google talk after I installed universal androot and titanium backup, and lost the ability to dowload stuff from the market...
So after some research(which I should have done before messed with anything) I followed your intructions to flash my ally back to version 6 and that all worked great, or so it seemed...
After a few days it still hadn't ota updated to v8 so I tried a hard reset but all it does is go to a blue screen with this written up top:
Fastboot mode started
Udc_start()
I have to do a battery pull to get out of that screen, then when I power it on again its as if I didn't try to hard reset it at all?
Any ideas?
Thanks, travis

Finally! I have upgrade/downgraded to stock V8. What I had to do is as follows;
flash the stock recovery img
reload V6 cab
do a reset to recovery
re-register my self on the phone
*#*#CHECKIN#*#*
install system update (OTA!)
Now my phone is unrooted, can receive OTA updates and has the stock recovery.
Thank you so much for this writeup i was on Version 9 and was unable to get updates because of it followed your steps and in under 15 minutes was updated from Version 9 to 6 to 8 to VB
Do I have to flash back to V6 if my phone came with V8 to get the VB OTA. (Wow, if I didn't know what I was talking about that would sound like garble!)
In other words, can I skip the flash to V6 somehow and go straight to VZB?

Thanks for all help in advance!!!!
If your phone came with v8 you should have gotten an OTA update by now for VZB.
I'm sorry, I should have clarified. Sometimes I think people can read my mind )
Anyway, I did get the OTA pushed to my phone and I said yes to the update. My phone restarted and that was that. Nothing else and SW version is still 8. LG Pro says they are working on a manual update for version 9 users and "hopefully" rooted users but I don't want to hold by breath for that.
I figured if I could un-root or go back to my factory settings then I might be able to get another push or get the update manually through System Update??

Thanks again!
Have you tried typing *#*#CHECKIN#*#* on the dialpad to see if the update is pushed again.
If not and you really want the update use this guide to flash back to v6 to see if you get the OTA.
Yeah, I did checkin which said it was successful but still no OTA or manual. I will use the flash guide to go to v6. I saw in early posts that some people were have to manually update to v8 since this new update. Do you know, by chance, if that's still the case?

That's what im un-sure of. Once your back on v6 im not sure if you will get an OTA for v8 first, then once you upgrade an OTA for VZB or just an OTA for VZB.
Woah, before I read the thread about V6 I thought "I'm doing something tonight, regardless" so I backed everything up and did a factory reset through the Settings Menu. While I was posting it was resetting and syncing with my Google account. After I saw that was finished I decided to try the System Update thing and it was already halfway downloaded!!! Woo Hoo!
Now I'm waiting on it to finish downloading and then I will post an update for everyone!
