I am sorry if this question has already been answered. I have tried to root my phone in many ways. I have tried Z4root, Superoneclick and Universal Androot. Adb can't see my phone when I plug it in either - with or without USB debugging. I really want to root my phone to overclock it, remove bloatware and get Gingerbread.

Did you cahnge the USB behaviour by pulling down the title bar?
Did you try connecting in bootloader mode first, so that the PC will recognize / install it's drivers, then try superoneclick?
Yes. I have tried all 4 of the USB settings, and also installed the drivers, and tried bootloader. When I try SuperOneClick, it either crashes or just closes by itself. I am running Froyo by the way.
.... Some instructabes say have USB debugging disabled when you plug in, but quickly toggle it to ENABLED as soon as you press root on your PC. You should then see a list of things running down "starting ADB push server" etc etc, then done.
I remember it being a bit hit & miss when I tried. Is your superoneclick icon in the same folder as the other stuff (with busybox, rageagainstthecage, etc)? I think it's best to wait a few mins for all the drivers to be recognized, then try the above steps.
I'm sorry I should've been clearer, you don't want to be in bootloader for superoneclick, phone should be on, in fact, you can be in the USB debugging menu in settings (see above).
I only suggested bootloader as this gets the comp to recognize drivers when connecting to RSD Lite, which also requires you to install drivers.

At last! Successfuly rooted my phone with superoneclick.
Cool. I think patience is needed mostly. You run superoneclick from inside it's folder that contains all the other necessary files (rageaginstthecage, busybox etc etc...), they are required in the same folder so the app can run them.
For some reason I still had to get busybox off the market after rooting. z4root doesn't work at all, just hangs (i got it to work once when in 2.1, that's it).
You can get root checker off the market, & superuser will appear in your app drawer when it's rooted - a menu might pop up asking for superuser permissions (things that require root).
