Cool How to root Defy Plus (MB526)

How to root Defy Plus (MB526)

1. Charge your phone for at least 50%.
2. Install Motorola USB Drivers on your Windows PC.
3. Install RSD Lite (i used version 5.7).
4. Get SBF's from step 2 and 4 at [How-To] Root für BL7 Stock ROMs (2.6.3, DFP-188 und höher) - Android-Hilfe.de
5. Rename these 2 files to a shorter name.
6. Boot phone into BootLoader menu (turn off and back on again by pressing and holding volume up and power button) and connect to PC using USB cable.
7. Start RSD Lite, click ... button and select first SBF. Click Start button.
8. After max 10 minutes it should be ready. Be patient and let it finish.
9. Do a "Wipe data / Factory reset" and a "Wipe Dalvik cache"
10. Again, click ... button and select second SBF. Click Start button.

When it's done you're rooted!

You then need a custom bootloader (if you plan to use another ROM).
1. Search for Easy Installer (infolife llc) in Google Play. Install.
2. On your PC download 2nd init for Defy (SndInitDefy), then put it on your phone. I used version 2.3.
3. Open Easy Installer and install 2nd Init.

If you want to flash a custom ROM (for example CM10), first power off then power on. When you see the blue light: press volume-down.

Thanks a lot ! After trying a number of methods to get root rights, yours finally did the trick.

In case this helps others, here is my phone information:
- System: 45.0.2310.MB526.Retail.en.FR
- Model: MB526
- Android Version: 2.3.6
- Build: 4.5.1-134_DFP-231

I downloaded the SBF as instructed and flashed them using "sbf_flash" instead of RSD Lite (I am using Linux Ubuntu 12.04.1). I fond how to "wipe data / factory reset" on Motorola support site. I installed "root checker" to confirm that my phone was rooted.

Hello Sujin

A couple of questions for you, since you would have the exact same phone as me not only in terms of H/ware but also OS.

* Did you take a backup of the stock ROM before rooting to take care of any warranty related issues that may arise in the future? If so how?
I have downloaded the listed stock rom, but am not sure if it is the exact same rom the phone was shipped with. Sorry can not post the link here as I do not enjoy that privilege as yet.

* Also have you flashed any custom ROM? If so, which and what is your experience? What was the method you used?

* Does this custom ROM allow call recording apps to work?

I have downloaded & installed RSDLite, 2ndinit 2.3 I think and an installer as indicated in this thread. Am just not confident enough to pull the trigger as yet.

Regards

aCs

Default Alright, I have messed up and need help!!!

I pulled the trigger today and rooted my phone Defy Plus. Rooting went fine,
and then disaster struck.

SO while I have escaped bricking it, it is royally messed up.

The problem is it is recognising a 3G connection from my service provider but not a 2G connection. With the extortionate 3g pricing we have here, I am now sitting on a disaster.

So please if anyone can help me out, will appreciate it very much. Thanks in advance.

I used the method above to root the phone and also installed custom ROM (Cyanogenmod 9)
Here's the link I referred for the process

Hi aCs_ND!
Probably way too late but I'm not spending that much on fora. Sorry to hear about 2G not working. Maybe you should try other SBF's? Which ones did you use? You might want to do step 9 again. Not sure if that would fix it though.

I've got a question about this: How can I do a backup of my stock OS and current settings (nandroid?) using ClockworkMod (in 2nd Init, right?) if I have to do a factory reset to install 2ndInit first?
