I've been getting the "unsuccessful install" messages when I try to download a new program from the app store. I tried using appbrain and the "market" applications to download. I have a new streak on ATT purchased from Dell. It worked fine for two weeks. Now it will no longer install any apps.


I'm on 1.6. I am now into almost a week without being able to download new apps. I tried: Restoring the Streak to a week earlier when I thought the app market worked; I uninstalled apps I didn't use that I installed recently; I have over 1gb free in internal memory; I cleared the cache in the appbrain and market apps. I tried everything mentioned in other forums by people with the same problem.

Today I may enter Dell Hell and try to call tech support. Any other ideas? I really don't want to do a factory reset since it will wipe out all my programs. If it doesn't work then I will still not be able to download and have no new programs, although I guess at that point I could do another "restore" to get them back.

Anybody have any other ideas before I try the phone call?

That might be your best bet, and suspect that that's what you'll be advised to do by Dell anyway.

Quite a few Market & AppBrain packages are 2.1 onwards and wont work on 1.6
Have you considered Upgrading to 2.1/2.2 ?? The instructions are readily available on Android forums, and it's relativly easy to accomplish.
I've taken my UK O2 Streak from the supplied 2.1 to 2.2, back to 2.1, down to 1.6 then back to 2.1 again.
Why?? to see which one i liked best

After posting this on as many Android forums as I could find, I finally got an answer that worked. I uninstalled the latest Market update. When I did that, it went back to working. Amazing.

I haven't tried to upgrade to 2.1 or 2.2 because I am happy with 1.6 for now as a new android user. I am fine waiting for Dell to send out the official update. I won't even do that, until I read it works well.

Hi, can you tell me how you uninstalled the latest market update? I've been having the same problema nd can't figure out what's wrong....

Hit your middle soft button while on the home screen, go to "settings" then "applications" then "manage applications". Then look for "market update" not the "market updater" , click on it and then click, "uninstal".

I believe these are the steps. If you don't see "market update" then click on "market" and see if there is an option to uninstall update.
