Default Android 2.2 allow Wifi between 2 android devices?

Does anyone definitively know if the Dell Streak (or any other android 2.2) once OTA 2.2 available and downloaded for Streak, be able to then act as a WiFi hotspot for any other android device, i.e. Tab, Archos 70, etc. It won't work now with an android 2.1 device, but will it without question if both devices are 2.2?
I use barnacle and works great with my iPad, but selling iPad and want to go all android, but not going to pay for 2 data services.

I hope someone really knows and thanks.

Really? None of the wifi standards have anything to do with the underlying OS, so if a 2.1 device can act as a hotspot for one device, it should be able to do it for any other device, regardless of what OS is being used.

Not true. It is recognized android to android will not WiFi together. I can't use Dell Streak to be a WiFi hotspot (or tether, if you will) to Archos 70 tablet with 2.1, but Streak works great with barnacle with iPad, flawlessly. Therefore OS does matter. why I asked original question to begin with.

Currently android does not detect wifi ad hoc, which is how most wifi tethers work

That is correct, again why I asked original question, will 2.2 handle this?

No. My EVO with 2.2 doesn't pick up adhoc.
