I have been holding off on purchasing the Streak and dumping my iPhone for a while now. I just hung-up the phone with a very knowledgeable Dell Mobile specialist. He has confirmed that the 2.2 update is available OTA for both unlocked and ATT Dell Streaks. He was very confident the info is correct. He said he uses one and it is released.
Can someone confirm that so I can pick up one of these bad boys and get rid of the iphone?
Just received my unlocked dell. It didn't come with 2.2 but a system update and a couple reboots fixed that. I assume mine is the unlocked version because wifi hot spot is enabled as is side loading.

US Streaks are supposed to get the OTA Update to 2.2 in Mid December. Im currently waiting also. But I would def. recommend that you get a Streak. There SWEET!!

Well as of right now I dont have an ota update yet. But it should be sometime this month. Yes you can always roll back I'm sure.

It did not happen. No OTA update. Now the question is do I return so I have my 30 days to test once it comes out? Do I root it and install 2.2? Is that risky? Is it easy to update OTA if it is rooted and a new rom installed over 1.6???
I know how sorry this sounds but what is a free unzipper i can use? i have downloaded everything but winzip has expired. is there anything I can use that wont expire and also happens to be free. I'm to broke after buying this damn phone to be buying software for something i dont use
WOW!!! That was soooooooo easy.
I had gone through the step in XDA developer a couple of time both up (failing at the DJ_Steve 2.2 step) and then back down.
But this way was faster and much (can't say that too many times ) much easier.
I'm running 2.2 now.

ok specifically that this driver is not for my device or something like that so it wont let me finish the update. this sucks. i have windows vista 32 bit according to the system specs page on the computer. and its on an amd 64 processor but im not sure how much of a difference that ends up making
2.2 starts tomorrow in the UK not for us in the States. If it happens at all it's going to be January

I know and I am. I feel like a universal release would benifit everyone the most. Granted I also think that there should be a way to release phones from the carrier/ producer approval model and Google should make it possible to get what ever the current update is in vanilla form.
I noticed at Best Buy they have Black and White Streaks. I read somewhere that the White devices were shipped with 2.2 verses 1.6 for the Black. Is that true or do they both have 1.6 out of the box?
Froyo on this thing is awesome. I have a factory unlocked version that has tether and hot spot installed. I have had a iphone 3gs, iphone 4 and a captivate, by far this one I have fallen in love with.

There are a few brick and morter stores here in houston that actually advertise on craigslist that they perform "flashing" for your android devices. They've been highlighting the fact that they'll get 2.2 on your Streak for $45. Looks good. May consider. Check craigslist in your area, but be careful. Safest bet (but insanely difficult) would be just to wait it out.

I ran 1.6 for about 3 weeks, and it was great (considering my old phone, windows phone). After at&t said to dell NO on 2.2 until after the first of the year, I downloaded the QDL repair tool, got the 309 version of 2.2 installed, then simply downloaded the 318 version of 2.2
This phone is like a totally different device now!
Has anyone heard anything for Rogers streak here in Canada? as it's still on 1.6 as well. I swear I read everywhere and cant find anything on rogers going 2.2. I don't really want to hack into it as its possible to brick it and i need my device, that said I'm ready to buy it, but this 1.6 business with no Rogers confirmation made public has me hold back.

I'm a recent convert from the iPhone 3Gs, and one that was long overdue as the iPhone was making my life hell!
Anyway, as with everyone else's mine came with 1.6 and I did the upgrade.....should I have done a fresh install?
I'm having a few issues with it though, and this upsets me as I really want to love this phone, the size is amazing!!
In text messages, the return (enter) key has gone! And replaced with a smiley face option....I thought these phones were for grown-ups and not 12 year olds!
My wireless doesn't seem to want to log into the routers...it can see them, and keeps saying that it is obtaining an IP Address then disconnects. It polls like this a couple of times then gives up.
Facebook throws up errors, as does the android market place.
Emails though...the notification keeps going bong! My iPhone allowed me to alter this, it would bong once....and then leave it for me to get round to looking at it in my own time. This is worse at nagging than my wife!
Is there a way of doing multiple actions to the email? I was hoping it would be similar to outlook etc where you can select multiple mails and either delete or mark as read.
I'm hoping that I'm just being daft as otherwise the whole thing is going back!
Oooooo and another quick question...I tried recharging using my existing USB charges I have for both Car and home....and none of them seem to work. Im really hoping it was just because it was low on charge...but it is going to be a little frustrating if I have to use genuine Dell units for absolutely everything!!
I would spend sometime in the "settings" and mail options. You can change the notifications on almost everything, just got to dig around. Take a little time and learn the device, there is allot to see and learn and I am sure you can get your notifications so your wife is happier too
If your router has a WEP, make sure you keyed it correctly, you may want to have it forget and re-enter it again. Mine found mine first time and works great on 1.6.

Sorry, I don't do text, so I can't help you there. I use K9 for email because it seems to support my Yahoo mail better and I can put both my gmail & yahoo in the same place. There are options for multiple functions too in the settings.

Change your keyboard. Change the settings using the menu key when you are in the screen. It can be set to go bing (words of beavis) once. Like it was said before just explore and learn it is so much more customizable than iphones.

Ok maybe I was a little harsh on the smilies thing... I do use them, but given the option I would rather use a return!!

I really have looked...even under the pillow as well as down the side of the couch.....and I cant find the settings I need.

These are the only settings I can see. The reminder that I have a new mail happens pretty much every 30 seconds....and I think I'm going to have a hatchet in the head soon by my wife.
For the enter button
I have found all of the extra buttons (numeric key pad, cursor keys etc) but none of them have the enter key
I know mine are different, since I am using K9, but it has Global Settings, Folder Settings, Account Settings. When I click on an individual account first and then go into settings under notifications, I have different options. Under Global I have a sleep option and time, under Account and then Notifications, I have the following options:
New Mail Notifications (notify in status bar)
Include in outgoing Mail
New Mail ringtone (which you can tap and get a whole list, including silent)
Vibrate
Vibration patterns
Repeat Vibration
Blink LED
Notification LED Color
Sync Notifications
Notification opens unread messages
Since I have never even opened the default email app, I can't say, but would assume it has the same options somewhere.
Hello. Being Jan 12th, I've been hitting Settings/About/Software Update every couple of hours or so today. As of 4pm PST no update avail yet for my AT&T locked Streak. Just providing a data point.
My complication is I got this phone with no plan, and so have no Sim in it. I'm worried that when the update does hit I might not receive it. Will wait and see. Hopefully when folks start receiving the update they'll post here. I'm still within my 30 days (Best Buy white Streak) and will attempt to wait out the update for a few more days then will have to decide on perhaps returning it and re-ordering an unlocked version direct from Dell.

If you dont have contract. With anybody take your dell streak back to best buy and get the unlocked dell streak through dell. 2.2 will not be ready through att for another couple of weeks so att said.

I was so fedup that today I called att, got the unlock code for my phone and unlocked it, I downloded the qdl tool, updated my drivers, and now I have 2.2 just like the other streak owners. Thanks guys for the good posts on how to do it. The drivers were the hardest part for me, but after that it went off without a hitch...the whole thing took under 5 minutes. now I am installing my backup data on my NEW 2.2 FROYO PHONE. IN YOUR FACE AT&T!!!!!

Which number did you dial to get the unlock code from ATT? I am on like day 27 of my 30 days. Still have not decided if I will return it. If I can unlock it and install 2.2 myself I may just keep it. I like the size of the screen.
All you do is call att cs and tell them,you are going out of the country and that you need the unlock code for your phone. They will ask for your imei number. Then they will give you the unlock code for your phone. Every code is different and only worcks with your imei. I tben went to tmobile, popped in one of tbeir sims, entered my code, and it is now unlocked
